How's it going I thought I would introduce myself I am kenny and I recently purchased a 1980 scottsdale k10 as a build. It has a 4inch lift on it and 33 in bfgtako I want to lift it more and put 44 inch super swampers on it. My questions are where can I find aftermarket websites for a front and rear bumper and how should I do the left to get a smooth ride out of it. Again I am new so all the help I can get would be great... I have other ideas I will indulge with more detail....

Welcome to the site! :thumb:

For the bumpers I chose www.diy4x.com, Kert is a super guy and offers off the shelf designs or will custom make whatever you want.

As for how to lift it, what's the purpose of the truck? Look good on the street, mud or rock crawling? Are you willing to trim the body a little, a lot or none?

The current "trend" is very low lift with lots of trimming to fit bigger tires so most answers will be leaning in that direction.

Hey thanks for the respond... I am not really looking to take it rock crawling its gonna mostly be used for highway driving with the occasional Mud trails and off the Highway. I just want bigger tires on it... I probably wont go with 44in tires more like 37's probably, I dont really want to trim the body. Right now I think I have a 4in lift on it and it is kinda bouncy and stuff so I mean it rides like a old truck... is there a way to smooth out the ride, change out the springs or the shocks or anything?

Tough Country makes a spring, I think it's called EZ Ride, and they are supposedly the nicest riding springs. If you want to clear 37's without cutting the body, you will need 6" of lift. You most likely have lift blocks in the rear, your best bet is to ditch them and go for a shackle flip. Remember, a 6" lift is only 6" in the front. It's a little less in the rear, because trucks come from the factory with the rear a little higher than the front, and after you lift it, it should sit level.
As for making the rear ride softer, you could pull out one of the leaf springs and replace it with an ORD zero rate. It's basically an added leaf but it's like 4 inches long and does not add any spring rate. It's also almost like a lift block, but different because it bolts to the spring pack, rather than just sandwich between the spring and axle.
Assuming your springs are not sagging, a 6 inch spring in front and a 4 inch shackle flip plus a 1 inch zero rate should do you well.

Wow. There is a lot for me to do... It gets me from place to place which is good and I appreciate the advice and help nd everything... I will look into it for sure... I already have to replace the seals on the differentials nd the rear seal on the transfer Nd the rear main seal on the tranny. The paint is horrible so I think this weekend I'm putting a rough edge on my truck body this weekend I'm going to flat black it soon...

Good luck finding mud around here. When you get ready to take it out send me a PM I know a few good spots where you can test the limits.
I would avoid lift blocks if at all possible.
You can buy longer springs to compensate for the lift.
The guys at 'National Spring' in Santee can make you some custom leafs to suit your needs.

... and welcome to CK5!:waytogo:

There you go, besides you can have it build like you want it to be and not get whatever the store gives you. i vote for a local fabber.:waytogo:

So I was talking to my wife the other night and we have decided to not get aftermarket bumpers but to stay stock but re chrome the front clip the front and rear bumpers... But thank you... Im not sure what kind of lift is on it.... or how much of lift it is.... But I do want to get some 37in tires....

I've found keeping wifey happy is key to a good marriage, so I'd start a truck budget, and get her on board for your new hobby. Take her wheeling once and you'll probably get new bumpers, tires, axles.....

:waytogo:Welcome to ck5

Oh yes it is so much easier to keep her happy.... it can be a challenge when she is prego but we have talked and we have decided. I'm going to rebuild the truck in a time span of 18 years... so when my son turns 18 I can give it to him rebuilt... I have many ideas and I am sure ill be posting on here for some help... and for those guys that are in southern California I might ask for some help... lol.

Are those 10 bolt axles?

I wouldn't put tires bigger than 35's on 10 bolts.
You could make 37's fit with some fender trimming. I don't know how much they would rub when you turn & tuck 'em tho...
