Newbie here, need advice on troubleshooting instruments gauge lighting problem

Sorry if this has been mentioned and checked. The instrument lamps have their own fuse, has this confirmed good ? what color is the wire that you think should have power and doesn't and which cavity in connector ?
The fuse box only has one fuse that says panel, which is one of the first thing tested. Other bulbs such as turn signals and emergency flasher does work.

Lt green from rheostat feeds 5amp fuse in block and gray wire to feed lamps in the IP. Sounds like the LT grn has power from rheostat since other lamps work.
need to check that fuse, and see if gray wire at IP plug has power.
I am beginning to suspect that the main light switch. As one of members also mentioned. I will hit up the local "ol school" auto parts store and see if I can somehow test them out.

You just need a DVOM. Look at your schematic for the plug/terminal locations for the cluster lighting circuit. Hook your leads up to both sides and rotate the knob. You should see a smooth change in resistance with no gaps or it going "open" anywhere in the sweep. Though you'll need to take your knob with you to the store as the switches don't come with them.

I am sorry I had the idea the truck was 88 for some reason. I will double check for glass fuse truck the years will be very similar for those. what year is your truck ?

Edit: I found it on first post :doah:

on 74 the wire from the switch is pink, goes to cavity #3 at the bulkhead connector in fire wall, (12P-3A) splices there (12P-3B) which goes to hot side of fuse.
Cluster fuse 3amp, feed the ip lamps (20P-39) the IP connector will have 2 terminals powered by this wire. One on each side and same color Pink.
wire feeding fuse is 12 gauge and wire to IP is 20 gauge.
If your cluster fuse has power with light switch on, this proves you switch is good. You have an open between the fuse panel and the IP cluster plug.

Tip if someone has installed a aftermarket radio or gauges with illumination, they could have spliced into this wire, 1st place to look for an open, anywhere somebody has been before.
