Newby here wanting to lower my K5?

I do have to agree with a previous statement though, when you lower this back to stock height, you may need to change out the wheels and tires, those look alittle wide for a stock stance, at least with 33's on them.

Well then that's a problem. I can't afford to go changing out suspension, rims, tires, incidentals, etc. Well, actually I can, but just not for this project. Anybody got proof one way or the other? The tires on there are 32x11.5. Is there any way to figure it out without dropping it (i.e. what measurements should I take, and how?) It sure seems like this info should be out there in the collective K5 conciousness.

32's, i thought they were 33's sorry, they may work out ok then, might be real close, the only problem areas would be the rear part of the fender while turning, IF it even is a problem.

Stock Blazer wheels, or Burb aluminum wheels are not too hard to find, and ususlly not expensive anyways. and those tires will fit on stock wheels as well.

If you want some steps, i got some sittin in my shed that i pulled off the day i got it...cover shippin and ill get them out to you. like the others have said, steps would be easier than lowering it. It bolts in to the rocker, 2 holes through the pinch welds and 2 into the back side of the rocker...i can't imagine shipping would cost very much for them, maybe 15$? IM me on aim if u are interested: whatsstuckk5

I'm running 33x12.50s on my 86 with no lift in the front, and no rubbing. Now you don't want to compress the front suspension fully, but for daily driving it works fine.

My brother ran 33's on his stock lift for a cpl weeks until we got the lift on it (4"). I wouldn't have taken it rock crawling or up a ramp to test its flex, but it was fine for a DD 4x4. With 32's, unless you have some odd offset that impedes steering, I doubt you/she would have any problems.

I am not saying you cannot run 33's without a lift, i am just saying you kinda have to watch the backspacing, and width of the rim, the ones on this truck, to me in the pic, look like 10" wide wheels, with an offset putting them alittle farther outside the wheel well, yes, flexing would NOT be an option with it at stock height, but it might at times while normal driving, and turning corners,,,rub slightly in the fender,

really won't know until it's lowered back down and drive it to see what happens, shouldn't be anything too extreme anyways.

hi, I have some stock springs and rear u bolts I would be interested in trading. I also have some 31-10.50 on aluminum rims that are on my suburban maybe we could work out some kind of trade on stuff. I know the 31s would work. I also have a tilt wheel steering column.

Here's the answer you've been looking for, now both of you will be happy :D

Welcome to the board.... and great find...

It looks like you have a 4” lift on yours, and that is what I’m running on my black K5…. The hoops aren’t that bad…. I put them on mine for my sister and mother to get in and out…. My daughter loves the truck and wishes I didn’t have steps on it and she’s 5’4” now….

If you have the 4” lift on it and have the correct shocks for it then they will be to long if you lower it…. Anything over 2-1/2” you need to change shock length… I have stock front springs, U-bolt and shock on my white ’74 K5, if you need it… I live in Mesa so let me know….

You folks have given me a lot to think about. I had really just thought of this as a quick, easy and cheap swap. Now I guess I'd be lucky to hit one of those. Thanks so much for the input from everybody. I still may drop this, but the steps are looking better and better.

Maybe I could just get a roll-up rope ladder! Then it would be hidden from view, but she could still get in.:p:

Use a saddle stirrup.
You need to find someone with a stock K5 that wants a lift, and trade parts.

Geez guys how many times does this guy have to repeat himself, he doesnt want to put steps or running boards on it...He wants to lower it down for his daughter... Quit trying to make a decision for him

Now lowering it down isnt hard at all and shouldnt cost much of anything. Just find somebody that wants to get rid of their old front springs and swap them in. Remove the block from the rear and you'll be good to go. The shocks might have to be replaced depending on how long they are.

Wheels should be fine, dont worry about them. I had 33x12.50s on a 15x10 and they fit just fine on the stock truck. If your daughter plans on going offroading all the time then this could pose a problem but somehow I dont think thats going to be an issue.

Mabey you should read his last post, 2 above yours.

This is what GOOD 2 leaf stock front springs and 32's look like with the factory rim offset and backspacing . My truck had 32's 4 years ago for awhile :thumb:

wouldnt work anyway. as soon as you put your weight on it, it would move in towards the middle of the vehicle and you would smack your shin on the rocker panel.
