I'm thinking about getting a newer truck. Something year 2007-2010. I looked a chevy 2010 but they just don't seam to be good anymore. Last good chevy trucks I liked were made in 1998.

The 2010 dodge ram HD seams good. I'm not sure.

i think the trucks have only gotten better. yea it may seem quality has gone down but thats brand across the board.

theres a reason everyone wants the 5.3 or 6.0. mpg is really great when you look at it. alot more comforts. etc etc

im with ya wazzabie, my 95 will do stuff these new trucks wont dream of doing, i hit a tree head on do 45 mph and ended up with only a didnt bumper and a small dent on the hood, try getting away with that in a new truck. motor wise yea i would like a 5.3 or 6.0 just for the power but i love the way my 350 feels under my foot, new trucks dont have that low end torque like they use to, or atleast i dont think they do. and yea the interior is nicer in new trucks but my 95 silverado is fully loaded and the only thing it doesnt have is heated seats but who cares about that any way. im sure everyone on here will complain and say im wrong but yea i believe the last year chevrolet built a real truck was 1998.

OK, maybe I'm just in a pissy mood and I should just leave it alone, but I'm calling BS on this claim. Unless the tree was the same diameter as a pencil or you have a concrete filled tube bumper, there is no way on God's green earth that you hit a tree at 45mph and just dented the hood and bumper. Your truck isn't made out of depleted uranium and I'm pretty sure it doesn't have a big "S" on it's hood. :zombie8:

No vehicle short of an Abrams tank would shake off a head on collision at 45 with a fockin' tree! And it doesn't matter how old it is either. I hit a tree not quite head on in an 78 K-2500 at 50mph and I was lucky to walk away, and the truck was totalled. And there's no way you can tell me that 5mph is going to be the difference between carnage and being able to fix the truck with rubbing compound.

hey if you dont want to believe it im fine with that. i know what i did and the two other guys ridin with me know, im not here to prove what ive done

I had a 89 K2500 and hit fencepost at about 5 MPH (slid into it on wet grass) and it dented the hood and messed up the black strip on the bumper.

Ill buy you a new hood and bumper if you do it again with somone taping it this time, hell Ill even spring the extra cash for a cowl hood if you'd like.

The new sierra with its boxed frame, rear e-locker and alison transmission with what i think was a 6.0 seems like a pretty solid truck. With that said im basing my info off there commercial i havent researched it at all because new trucks are a waste of money imo.

oh and guys keep the **** on pirate please :D

How are they a waste of money?

hmm i guess this is one of those things you dont talk about on here or everyone will try to prove you wrong. owell im outa this thread

well i bent a frame and destroyed the back half of a 97 f150 with my 77 c10 and mine was still running after, didnt even dent my bumper! :woot:

And yes, i can prove it.

I dont like new trucks because of the amount of loss you take purchasing one. Buying one from a second hand either individual or dealer and let them take the initial loss. Buddys parents ended up paying 22k for a truck they got for 18k and he tried to trade it in with 2k miles on the clock and got offered 15k.

Then again im the crazy one who would take a 50 year old truck and make it nicer than a 2010 given the same fund availability.

Guys.. come on sure as **** they don`t make them like they used too, but they sure do drive nice, and are alot more forgiving on the back. I like old trucks just as much as the next guy but I wouldn`t trade my d max for nothing, but maybe a new one!!

Well when someone tries to tell me that they can hit a tree head on at 45 mph and the only damage it does is dents the bumper and puts a small dent in the hood, I call BS. Just because he claims it's true, it doesn't mean I have to believe it. Thats not talking $#!+, that just means that I don't fall for what some people tell me hook, line and sinker.

I aplogize to anyone I offended, but I stand by my doubts.

I somewhat agree with some of what has been said. I think ?96? to 98 (because of the updated interior) chevrolet full size trucks, and of course the 67-87 Chevrolet pickups were the best.

I just like the way the trucks look, i've not had much dealings with newer model chevys except for a 05 2500hd I loved. :D

That ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

plus equally importantly how many times have you been workin on your rig and cursed those ''****ing retarded engineers why did they put that there''. Well when you build your own rig everything is exactly how you like it. Everything is easy to access if YOU make it that way. Everything looks however you made it look. Something breaks youll have er running again in no time because YOU built it and you know how everything comes apart and works and goes back together. Obviously it is a time investment but i assume since your on ck5 that it is a labor of love. Think about how much more fun it would be driving a rig that you put together and customized with your own hands. Not to mention fixing up an old rig to drive will be cheaper/tougher easier to repair/replace parts. Repairs are WAAAAAAY cheaper on older rigs as well in my experiences granted they are limited.

with that said, Their is a social advantage to driving a newer truck makes you look more ''normal'' while still being masculine at the same time. And undoubtedly they are much more comftorable.

I personally do not base my choice of vehicle and what I like on trying to look "normal" or giving a crap about anyone who would judge me based on what I drive.

My wife drives a 2010 Tahoe LTZ and I can offer the following: She likes it. It drives well, is safe, comfortable, and full of niceties like DVD and a rear cammera. I think it drives OK and does lack felt low end torque. Mechanicaly they have gotten better as towing capacity is up, ride is better, and they are very reliable. My biggest problems with it are quality of materials and little things braking. 2 of the 4 cheap plastic exterior door handles have broken and pulled from the sheet metal. The arm-rests on the middle row of seats have come loose at the hinges. They use a tinny stud and bolt and the bolt constantly backs off. The bumpers deform after the slightest rub. The little flapper doors on the 12v accesory ports (cigarette lighters) brake off. The exterior sheet metal is thin as hell and will get a door ding from a stiff breeze. The little coil of wire that connects the rear window to the defroster broke loose from the window.
I can keep going, but you get the pointe. Every aspect of these trucks is driven by bottom line profitability and the average ownership period. They are built to last 5 years, not 10 -15 years like to old ones. The vast majority of buyers lease for 3 years then trade them in. GM knows that they will make more money taking them in, "re-certifying" them (fixing the little things) and selling them again as used.

I have had a 93 and a 95 model truck and they will do things the newer trucks wont do like leak oil horribly and the ac dosent blow worth a crap. I have a 2001 model now and it has way more power than the older trucks.
I too belive that if you hit a tree a 45 your destroying something. how big was this tree.

^^^^Agreed

It depends what you value in your equipment. New trucks are safer, faster, and ride better....like cars. Our 06 Silverado still has decent sheet metal and the 5.3 is tough to beat . We also have a 09 Silverado which I have been pretty dissappointed with as far as overall quality. Its loaded and a nicer truck I have yet to look at or ride in :woot:...but as stated above it dents if the wind blows hard plus the interior is full of cheap parts that will most assuredly break at some point.

Old trucks were built more for purpose like tractors. They are built tough as sh** and meant to last...but you dont want to go much over 70 mph and comfort is questionable even in the most well optioned examples.

I take a "separate but equal" standpoint. For kid transports, roadtrips, and overall technology...new trucks. For cool factor, wrenching, and the zombie/end of days scenario...old trucks.
