Does anyone know why there is no on demand locker out there BESIDES the ARB for the 14Bolt FF? Eaton has there E-Locker Truetrac has there electrac ox has theres and NONE of them make it for the 14Bolt FF I think its kinnda stupid because oh How many people run this rearend... /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Just curious if they were more avaiable would yall run them? /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

Probably because ARB has been the standard for such a long time. Is GM even really using the same 14 bolt dimensions in the new trucks?

Auburn Gear just came out with their new ECTED on-demand locker. It's a little different than the others though. It has a clutchpack in it so when it is unlocked it operates like a limited-slip instead of an open differential. Looking at the exploded view it doesn't look too terribly strong but I suspect it'll get the job done. I don't know if they'll make it for the 14FF though.

I can't see how they would set it up to work, I mean they'd pretty much have to to replace the entire carrier, it would be cost prohibitive I guess. I don't think ARB makes an air locker for the 14 bolt do they?

I bet if you give it some time, Detroit will make there Electrac available for the 14bolt....But to answer your question, I don't know! Maybe they figure that most people are gonna just put a full time locker in the rear, and that's why they concentrate on the front selectable locker. /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

I emailed Eaton a few months back about this question on the 14bff, the responded saying it's in the planning stages, but nothing is set in stone as of yet.

That would be for the E-Locker.

I believe that there are a few company's testing 14FF selectables but none have hit the market yet. I think the overall strength of a 14 causes the locker to become a weak link (a bad thing for a new locker on the market). I am waiting to find out. /forums/images/graemlins/ears.gif

No. AAM has changed the designs . The "NEW" 14 bolts have two different sizes and strenghts in rear, and an all new design in two different sizes for fronts. Yes they make fronts now (14boltish). The fronts are in Dodges for the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks. GM doesn't even make them anymore. Gm sold off the differential holdings in 1994 to a group of investors who started AAM. Now they just buy them from them. The pinion design is different now and doesn't have as many bearings, which sucks. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif

From what Detroit and ARB both told me when I contacted them, part of the problem is the design of the 14FF as well. It has a unique design that makes it difficult to construct a selectable locker that is strong enough to properly function and with stand the kind of abuse most 14FF get subjected too.

Most companies have claims that they are working on something but to date I have yet to see anything concrete on them, only these empty promises from the manufacturers.

Coulda swore I saw the Eaton selectable for the 14FF at SEMA. Even asked the guy to make sure. oh wells. Worked pretty good from what I saw, its acutally quite simple in design.

install a detroit... its selectable... the switch is built into the skinny pedal.

Iceman,

Tibus apparently sold his design to TeraFlex... (you probably already knew that), so now you need to bookmark a new site
