went to go to the store and turned on my headlights and no bueno, the parking lights come on but no headlights, so i took a test light and i have no power at the headlight at the conector
so in the daylight i am going to check the grounds and go from there. I have a switch but i am hoping i dont have to change it.
anything else i should check?

check the fuse links. Headlight circuit is hot at all time with no fuse. So fuse link at starter or bus bar on fire wall. Also power to headlight goes through the dimmer switch after headlight switch.

Will check dimmer switch, also adding a harness to get power direct from battery ,cant hurt

Be a perfect time to put the lights on a relay and use the ground to trigger.

It’s on its way be Tuesday , got off Amazon lmc was on back order and they wouldn’t tell me how long it would be. Should work the same though

I've had to replace the floor mounted dimmer switches in many of my old trucks,my '82 K2500 had the plug corroded so bad I couldn't get it off the switch, the prongs came out stuck in the plug...had to buy a new pigtail/plug and switch...
I put a blob of wheel bearing grease on the plug and around it after having to re-drill new mounting holes, the original bolts snapped off in the floor pan...salty boots and dimmer switches are a bad combination..
Nothing like switching off the high beams on a country road with no streetlights, and having NO headlights!..

well i had electrical plug cleaner and some dielectric grease and i used those to make work, would love a new pig tail but have to find first

I think I got the new one at Autozone,it was only 3-4 bucks..most parts stores have a rack of electrical sockets and pigtails for sensors, switches and alternators,etc..NAPA will if no one else does in your area..

I bought a new alternator pigtail at the same time but found out the wires were bad further away from the plug, haven't used it yet..

Relays should be on everyone's list of upgrades for any squarebody they drive at night. The difference getting full system voltage to the bulbs is pretty noticable.

I've measured the voltage at the light socket with and without relays. It was a solid 2 volt difference with the engine running. 14.5v at the bulbs with the relays and 12.5v without.

2 volts dropped shows the massive amount of resistance the stock circuit has since the path goes all the way from the battery, into the cab, headlight switch, dimmer and back out to the engine compartment. Old wiring adds to it.

That kit is cheap enough there is really no reason to avoid getting one. Just make sure the power circuits for the load side of the relays are fused. The LMC relay kits from China lack that element and they should not be without circuit protection. I added them to mine when I installed it.

should i get one and put on the high beams?
Didn't your kit have two relays on it? Because one was for the low beams and the other was high.

I went back and looked at the kit it had two relays on it. Are you running 2 or 4 headlights? Because the kit you got was for a 2 light system.

thanks, will order now

oops! GUES I CAN GIVE IT TO SOME ONE THAT HAS A 2 HEADLIGHT SYSTEM
