No power driving up hill

So I drove it to work and it was making that noise all the way there! I just drove back home and noise stopped. I have heard it before, when I drove it to get diffs rebuilt it made the noise then went away. The front drive line u joint doesn’t fit properly so I rigged it for now so maybe that’s the issue! I’m gonna remove the front drive line and see if noise comes back

You can't really rig a driveshaft, only to limp to safety
 
Ya my front drive shaft fell off when I was driving home from hunting trip and I couldn’t find it. So I ordered one from Amazon but the joints are smaller than where they mount to. I’m gonna have drive shaft corrected so joint fits correctly. I just put some spacers there for now but I’ll just remove drive shaft till it’s fixed
 
I bought the drive shaft from Apremium off Amazon but it was too long probably because the transmission and gearbox are not original. So I found one in the length I needed but the u joint was smaller then were it mounts on the front axle. So I guess I will look into the conversion u joint first

If you have flexy front suspension, you may need to move away from a stock-type slip joint, though.

There’s a shop near me that does custom drive shafts, I’m going to take the truck there and see if they can get me the u joint I need. I will save the link you sent just in case. Like always you guys are awesome
 
I removed the front drive shaft and noise went away! I’m thinking the noise was coming from the drive shaft or the transfer case, I’m taking truck to shop to have them check transfer case and most likely rebuild it and also check transmission and have the shop do the transmission fluid change while it’s there and install a conversion u-joint. After all this my drive train should be reliable then I’m gonna have original carb rebuilt installed and tuned correctly.
 
Any chance you still have factory automatic locking hubs?
 
the auto locking hubs can be an issue. Mostly they fail to lock when needed. Having one or both locked while t case is in 2 wheel high, shouldn't cause any harm. Mine had the perm drive slugs in for years, though I took the front driveshaft out. If the axle shaft u joints are not frozen or stiff.
Driving in 4 hi with the hubs unlocked at low speeds is not bad either. Doing so at high speeds will cause a good vibration.
 
If auto hubs malfunctioned and locked, they would spin front driveshaft and with wrong joint, would cause the vibes/sound for sure
 
There’s no vibration In the truck just had a weird sound. The best way I can describe it is like putting a card taped to a bicycle tire. I’m pretty sure it’s the transfer case, but I’ll find out this week

Yeah Id ditch those hubs before taking it to pay money to someone else

Those auto hubs were problematic when new. A lot got dropped in the trash within a few years

Not sure about the auto hub but I have had worn out manual hubs that like to partially lock on their own and make a sound just like that, along with a bit of a squeak. I would unlock the hubs and then notice a sound echoing off houses and parked cars as I drove by. Checked the hub and it was a 1/4 rotation towards lock. Unlock and it went away for a while. Badly worn Spicer hubs. New Warn hubs fixed it, no noises now.

I’ve got one of those going now, on a Bluetooth driveshaft even
