Greetings, on my 87k5350 I went for a 1st. (little) ride about 1/2 mile. The ride was just because and to maby unstick my front calipers, (didn't work)
The temp didn't really go above 210* but the brakes were a slight strugle. It was just hot enough to turn my stainless headers gold. Enough of that, !/2 an hour later it seemed like the battery was really low (new one) so I charged it and tried to start her up again and, no go!
I checked fuses, wires ect. but have no fuel pump noise, no fuel ofcourse and I didn't pull a plug wire but tried a shot of fluid and think I have no spark. The only thing I thought was ... does the oil sender kill the fuel and spark if it goes out? The pressuer guage did seem a little unsteady for a while now. Any input would be great. Thanks, David

OK, sorry it does have spark i'm sure, just no fuel or pump sound. Is there any way of checking power to the pump? Thanks

You can go directly to the connector on the fuel pump and back probe it with a multimeter and check for voltage. Also check your fuse panel for a blown fuse for the fuel pump (also remember if the fuse is blown, there could be another problem in the circuit, example, short or excessive resistance). Might also help to have a wiring diagram of the circuit so you know what wires are supplying voltage to what. Another simple test you could do is check resting voltage, cranking voltage and running voltage on your battery with a multimeter. Resting voltage should be around 12.6v, cranking shouldn't go bellow 10v, and charging voltage should be around 13v to 15v. If your resting battery voltage is low, then charge and re-test, if cranking voltage is low then check for excessive resistance on that circuit, could be bad starter brushes, corrosion on negative or positive battery cables and low charging/running voltage will indicate a bad generator/alternator.

Remember, without a proper power supply and charging system then other components will not work properly. If all of these things check out, then go to the suspected fuel pump.
