I recently sold the '14 Silverado I bought two years ago and found this to replace it. It's a 2001 Chevy Silverado ccsb with the duramax and 5 speed Allison transmission, close to fully loaded for the day. I'll tell you what, I could get used to how the diesel pulls! Accelerating is much more fun than any gas pickup I've owned! Anyways, it's got 260k miles and seems to be all original, no smoke, ever. Cold start, fires right up, no smoke. Punch it off the line, no smoke. That said, I'm not sure if it's been tuned or not, as it has an egt and boost gauge on the A-pillar, but no programmer of any kind that I can see.

First item of business: tires and fluids/filters. Then fix the fuel gauge, as it sits on E and won't move from there.

I love that front end, but you need some tow meers!! :ears:

Either way! Good choice! I’m a diesel junkie, you’ve just been bit by the green stuff.

Tow mirrors will happen eventually, maybe next spring. I'm not really going to build and modify this one, just maintenance and such.

I keep gloves and paper towels in mine for the stations that are really nasty.

Also try and buy from stations that sell a lot of fuel. Don't buy sololy on price. I like to run power serve in the grey bottle every few tanks.

I usually buy my gas from Maverick, which are always busy stations, though around here it's hard to find a quiet station...

I've already decided I need to keep a glove in the fuel door so I can keep the nasty on the pump handle off my hands.

When the bug bites you hard enough, you won't mind getting pump juice on your hands.

You will come to love that oily smell. So much nicer than that nasty gasoline stuff.

I've been around diesels most my life, just this is the first one I owned. I do enjoy the diesely smell though...

A few random pictures I took for my brother. I like the gauge layout, I actually think it's the best factory gauge setup ever put into a GM truck. I do worry though, I didn't want a tuned motor, because of reliability issues and such, so I really hope the boost gauge and egt aren't an indication of that. The fact that it doesn't blow any black smoke and the exhaust is stock means it probably is stock, but it is far more powerful than a 6.5 (I test drove one of them as well)

As soon as I sell the tonneau cover that money is going to a double din radio with a backup camera. After having one in my '14 I had to put one in the Yukon and now I miss it in this one. That and the fact that half the lights in the factory radio are dead bugs me, I'm slightly OCD about lights...

I miss my lb7. Was a great truck, but I was getting hundred and thousand to death by that thing. If it has the stock cp3 I'd put a lift pump on to get you some more time. If you like how that drives, a lml or lp5 will blow you away.

My favorite front end... 16 years driving mine.
The only thing I don`t like about the 01 and 02 is the trans does not have the 5thd gear lock out. Everyone hacks on the lb7 for no good reason, " Injectors go bad, head gaskets blow out" Yes they can and do,but so do the other variations of the duramax. Mine has had one set of injectors at 369thousand klms its got 470 on it now. That is the only time the engine has been looked at.Not bad IMO for all the years we have had it. Colbys has had injectors done before he got it, and I did the head gaskets. But It has over 500 thousand on it.

Nice looking truck Riley! Always like it when a ck5 member buys a Duramax. Any year... I have never wanted a different truck since we bought ours new. Except for maybe a newer one. We will always have one.

Yeah I really wish Chevy had stuck with this look for a bit longer before they went with the angry cat eyes look. They went from one of the best looking trucks to one of the worst, in one year. Same with the current generation Silverado, 14-15 looked great, then they whacked it with an ugly stick, hard. Now the 19 Silverado looks like an aborted turd, so the only way a redesign can go is to make it look better.

Some of the things you wish you could shoot the previous owner for...

So I'm backing out of the driveway this evening, when I notice the brake pedal is sinking. So I crawl under the truck and have my landlord push on the brake pedal while I look, and there's the worst cheap bodge fix I've ever seen in my life! :yikes:Good thing that didn't fail while I was goofing around on some mountain roads on Saturday...:ignore:

Needless to say, the truck is out of service until further notice.
