noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

^^^ that is excellent advise/question. This is something I have to stay "on top of" on my truck. Band Aid or not, the hydro assist will eliminate it.

Have you thought about shimming the king pins?

ok, ya got me as I have not heard of this or dont recall it,

edit..nevermind your talking about the fender washer trick? If so I "think" I did that already, I cant remember if I put them on the buggy or this dana 60 though...now ill have to check.

like I said though, its riding nice now that i have the toe adjusted and the tires that are cupped swapped to the rear...now I just have goofed up rear tires. I dont have access to a tig welder and the aftermarket cap for the steering box wont work on mine, So the plan is to get my box rebuilt and have the steering guy tap it and modify the box for me.

Yes fender washers. It seems to work for me.

one thing I noticed when I did that on my old 75 blazer/truggy er..hack truck thing I had was that the front end felt really tight afterwards, almost too tight

any thoughts on airing the rear tires down a bit? I wont be having a load back there anytime soon and I am mostly driving the other truck right now. Less air would get them hotter and maybe wear them down or make them ride smoother?

How many did you put in there? I had the same deal happen when I put 1 washer too many in, The steering was real tight and didnt have a good return. I put 3 under each cap with success.

wow..i only used maybe 2 at the max, ill have to add some to the white truck, anyone remember the diameter? 7/8?

2"x1/16 thick with a 1/4-1/2 "hole in the center. about 40 cents each at lowes or Home depot. Very obvious when you see them in the store. Just look for fender washers.

My truck got infected with death wobble
why do d60's develope death wobble?? iv heard of so many accounts of this. makes me wanna stay with my 3/4 ton d44

It's not just the D60's. I have been running x-over, no stabilizer with pretty much a rebuilt 10b for over a year+ with no DW. I hit a RxR crossing way too fast :eek1::eek1: and the suspension unloaded down in south Chandler a few months back - It felt like I got air - no issues.

I was coming to a stop 2 weeks ago, in a construction zone at 25 to 30 - I hit the same bump in the road that I have hit at 50+ a dozen or so times with no problems until this time --> DW! I thought the front end was coming off.:mad:

a ball joint 44 or 10 bolt can get it too, when the king pin or ball joint is wore out, bad, crappy the leverage of a large tire can put a serious shake into motion.

things like wore out tie rods, pitman arms, tie rods, ect.. cause play in the steering, hitting bump, out of balance tire or certain wheel speeds can make these wore out or loose parts get noticed real quick:crazy: The dana 60 has a plastic bushing help in a circular cap, the plastic pushing is placed on top on a metal cone shape sliding on it, a spring is placed on top to preload it. If that spring is weak, wore out or there is wear/damage on the bushing the problem will be noticed with a large tire.

really it comes down to maintenance, things like stabilizers or hydro assist or full hydro keep a "pull" or force and keep the amount of play toned down so it can mask the problem.

any thoughts on what to do about the rear tires people?

I've always wondered the same as well. I know any front end can get it from wore out front components but do D60s just wear out parts faster? I've ran 35s to 38s on 2 dif K5s (one with a 10b and one with a d44) and never had a problem. I've kind of leaned to towards keep my d44 in my K5 right now for the same reasons since it's prob gonna be 75% street driven when finished

I dont think its the axles fault.. for some reason the added beef makes me want to beat on it a little more..

iv heard of about 10 cases of DW in a 60 and this is the first one iv heard of in a 44 from AZ79k5project. i guess d60s just wear out parts faster because iv heard of people having dw in 60's even while running 35's and i have 38's on my d44 3/4ton with no stabelizer or crossover and iv never had dw in any of the two half ton front ends iv had (not 2 AND 1/2) 2 axles that were both 1/2 tons

stay with a little axle and fear breakage when you get on it.
hey whos axles you callin little. haha no but thats true. hey stupid question but theres no such thing as a d44 1 ton right? just 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton 44s? this guys tryin to convince me there is a 44 1ton.... i think not

d44's are 1/2 ton's. the only difference is the outers, 6 or 8 lug.

also about the DW. the reason you hear so much about it is that everyone gets these used axles out of plow trucks, and beat work trucks with who knows how many miles, and they put them in their trucks and expect them to be new. a little maintence goes a long way.
