Where is the cheapest place in the 5 NW states that you can find serviceable, as removed 2 1/2 Rockwells and how much would that be?

Man, I'm going over the edge now......

I don't know the answer to your question, but
I thought you had a Craigslist budget? :doah::bow::haha:

go 5 tons, trust me, you wont reget it...........stronger and you can rotate the pig without any modifications unlike a 2.5.......and if you find the right axles you can get 10.88 gears, there are also 2 other gear sets readily available........

Keep an eye out on www.Govliquidation.com for stuff from Ft. Lewis. About 6 months ago I saw 3 2.5 tons that went for 1000 each down there. Wish I would have had the capital then...

Another good site is the gsa auction site:

http://gsaauctions.gov/gsaauctions/gsaauctions/

I've seen running duece and a halfs go for $1500. What I like about that site is the fact that you are buying from government agencies that have actually had the vehicles up and running for their departments and maintained by their shops rather than strickly unknown surplus units. There were a bunch of 5/4 Ton CUCV pickups that all went for under $1000 recently. Their vehicles usually also come with the SF97 form so you can just walk in and register them.

I'm hoping not to have to buy the whole rig.

Does anyone know of any military surplus places that carry vehicles/parts in the North West? I know there is a place north of Salt Lake, but I was hoping to find a place closer.

Thanks in advance.

5 tons have a very short list of aftermarket support among being seriously huge and heavy.

you would be surprised at what is available, there is actually a pretty good support system out there for them, you just got to know what website to ask on.......Warn sells lockouts for them........i know several guys running 5 tons and bigger on their trucks......if i build a big truck its going to get 5 tons......

I notice your in Florida, more of a mud/ swamp area. I imagine the mud guys or chuckstrucks guys deal with some aftermarket eh?

With him being in the north west im curious as to his use of the truck, how much of a motor and if it is for rocks, trails or mud.

The massive weight of this thing with the 5 tons would seem ridiculous, monster truck sized tires and wheels with leaf springs and a C-channel frame?

A dana 60 weighs in near what 650 pounds? Where as a 5 ton front hits the scales at around 2k. Not to mention the 5 ton axles you have to run a 20 inch wheel or larger and they have a 10 lug bud "sp???" pattern. Factor in some custom and heavy wheels onto the equation too.

While 5 ton is a hell of a bang for a buck in the beefy department there is such a thing as too much of a good thing! With a 5 ton..that comes in the form f weight!

below is a comparison pic of a 5 ton and a 2.5 ton

Wow! The word Massive just doesn't quite get the point across. Dang. If a 5 ton weighs in at 2000lb, how much does a 2.5 weight?

Thanks for posting the pics.

yes i live in florida now, but they arent doing just mud with them anymore, car crushing, jumping, tug-o-wars, obstacle courses......if you got less than 1200 horse the 5 tons are good, after that i would suggest Patrick Enterprises centersection with combine planetaries....those work good too.....

You might contact Anderson Brothers in Eugene, Oregon. They specialize in Big Trucks and really knowledgeable, they should be able to point you in the right direction.
