Not another 1ton Project- my first K5

One vote for SX's :D

Well I found 5 37" SSR's with new spare but others are little worn then I found 5 37" Nitto trail grapplers (which I have on my diesel) for 800. 80% tread and spare is brand new! Very very tempting to get the Nitto's even though they are heavy tires

picked up 5 37/12.5r17 Nitto trail grapplers today for 800! 4 of them are about 85% and one is 100%. These are a little heavier than most tires and E rated but I love them under my diesel tow rig.

Also here are some better pictures of the K5 itself I took the other day. Can't wait to pick up my 2003 silverado seats and perfect dash.

Sweet rigs guy!

I wish I had those ultra light rims like the ones on your jeep! :haha:

Im looking into getting into the cummins thing. maybe 5.9 mega manual?

Thank you! and Yeah now I have some slightly heavier Trailready Beadlocks for it

Good luck finding that combo! a 5.9 6spd Mega is like a holy grail truck. That is why I ended up buying that truck in 2010 because I couldn't find one that wasn't almost the price of a new truck.

Yeah ive seen a few around but there pricey. I suppose I could live with the double cab. The ones ive seen range from 25 to 28 which is too much. I'm trying to get an understanding for what is high mileage and whats not.

Gonna bite the bullet and do the DIY4x Highsteer kit because I don't want to throw hydro assist on a stock tie rod and I kindof like over kill.

Good idea! Are you doing crossover and highsteer or just crossover? ORD makes a steering link (tie rod) thats 3/8s thick wall...

Highsteer and crossover with hydro assist. I know that puts extra stress on the knuckles but after talking to DIY4x he said hydro assist will help with the stress. Just debating if I should do crossover with a beefy tie rod because I don't want to deal with clearance issues and I don't see myself wheeling this hard enough to bend tie rods. But i've said that before lol

High-steer with assist can create some clearance issues so keep that in mind too.

Must.....use.....self.....control. LOL

hahaha pretty much! I'm just a business guy so I weigh out my options and do way too much homework. Way too much of a perfectionist

Going with ORD it will be 700 total Using crossover kit, 1.5 tie rod, new ends, PSC clamp mount. Then I need to add the DIY mount (50) or do their diffcover which adds about 200.

- DIY4x for the Highsteer kit is 604 + 85 for ram mounts = 689

- Diy4x crossover is 335+85 tie rod+45 Tie rod ends+ 50 for mount+ 45 for tie rod mount= 510 total which would allow for razorback cover

From a quick glance the ORD tie rod ends look really beefy compared to the offerings by Diy4x

why i'm hesitant on going high-steer

I thought about doing highsteer too but with the interference of the crossmember its more likely that ill do full hydro. A good size tie rod can take a real beating before running into any trouble. Just cant use ramming speed haha

I hear ya...I have excel sheet after excel sheet of wish lists, prioritized and hyper linked to the websites....a lot of research for the best options.

-Crossover steering kit with new tie rod and ends is ordered from DIY4x:woot:

- Picking up Two cloth grey 2003 Tahoe buckets this week for 75.00 each from a local salvage yard, Yes I've found them cheaper but i'd have to burn diesel going to get them. No rips in the seats as well!

-Selling my old wheels/tires this week so I will order new ones when those are gone. Nothing fancy just some black steel 17x9's. Debating on Backspacing though because of my Dually width Dana 70

-Switching my hedman headers out for Hookers #2453 from summit after doing some reading on here. My current headers hit the shackles and thats not gonna fly especially when I put the ORD FUSH kit on. I've got two 3in Flowmaster 40s laying around that will probably go on as well when I take it to my buddies exhaust shop.

- My ignition keys don't work on the doors so i'm either gonna call a locksmith or replace the whole set to have matching keys.

Excited to finally have all my parts in so I can bring this thing home and actually work on it. Too many projects going right now, just want this streetable so I can enjoy it.

FWIW you can buy a lock kit for like $30+ bucks that includes the ignition tumbler and door tumblers with new keys. Yeah you have to pull the door panels off but it's a pretty cheap option.
