Not happy with SSR\'s

I have the 37 inch SSR's on 16" rims that I bought several months ago, maybe 8 or 10. I drove the [censored] out of the truck, once, for one weekend 4th of July, since I broke it 3 years ago on the 4th (I had to get it out on the anniversary). Anyway, I Drove 3 1/2 hours with NO SHOCKS, tore a breakline, fixed it the next weekend and drove it 3 1/2 hrs home. (All old news.) It's been sitting in the drive way since then because my A.I.R. injectors are breaking off of the headers and I want to fix the exhaust before I drive it again. I just can't stand the noise of a leaky exhaust.
(The wind of the open cab and the noise of the tires and road don't bother me, but a the leaky exhaust bugs the hell out of me)
Any way, it's only been driven once for a grand total of about 450 miles. There is a big ass crack in one of the tires. It starts at the top of a lug and travels down one side, like it's going to pop off, then it (the crack)continues past the lug for another inch and it looks like it goes straight into the tire side wall. After seeing it, I'm afraid to drive the thing at all. I mean, I do have a full size spare, but I should not have to use it after only 400 freeway miles and 50 off road miles. I have a friend that bought a set of 5 Boggers from 4 Wheel Parts. 3 out of 5 of the tires developed the same tread to rim crack immediately, he contacted 4WPW and they warrantied the tires - no problems since.

There was a bad batch of SSR's that were sent out to a crapload of distributors. It is known so returning it will yield you a new one from a good batch.

actually, SSR's are not just super swamper radials, because there are super swamper radials (the TSL's) that are a slightly different tread design. Basically the SSR's have tighter center tread with sipes, and some junk on the sidewall.

from the reviews I've read (I don't have them) they are a great tire. BFG quiet, great in mud, sticks to rocks, handle the road well. Petersens (4 Wheel and Off-Road) rated the SSR's second in mud only to the boggers in one test I read awhile ago. I don't know about how many miles you can get out of them, but I have seen them and know they are soft.

I was just curious because I have 36" super swampers on my K-5, I got them because the tire store said they were good...But I was not certain if I could trust them. I am curious if I am going to get much mileage out of them..And cannot wait for the rain to see how they do in the mud /forums/images/icons/smile.gif
