Workin on a truss this weekend. I've got some pretty cool ideas...stay tuned! :pimp1:

The 4Runner is finally being delivered this weekend as well. Yay! Been alooong time since I could think about building another rig...Feels gooooood! :grind: :weld: :weld: :grind: :saweet:

Small bit of progress today...Cleaned up and sandblasted-

I'll have the truss about 90% finished tomorrow. :D

The rig? lol...Right now it just looks like a bone stock '87 4runner with no front clip or engine trans t-case. And it's white...sorta.:haha:

Truss almost finished-

This axle will be running 47's atleast....and I want to be able to jump the **** out of it, so no overkill comments. lol!
Gonna try to finish up the back tommorrow. Still have to incorporate the spring mounts. I'll do that when I'm getting ready to stick it in the rig though...Gonna build the proper pinion angle in the mounts. No ubolts either. There will be a 3/4 or maybe 1" thick plate with tapped holes and studs. The spring will sit in there then a top plate will clamp it all down. It'll all be built into/notched out of, the profile of the truss....it doesn't need to get any bigger. :eek1: Leaf spring setup temporary though. Good 1.25 rod ends for a link setup are expensive... My cost $90 for the big 1.25" Summit Machine Jimmy Joint. :eek1: When the time comes, the leaf spring mounts will be modified into coil bucket things, or air shock mounts. I've also got a pretty cool idea for the top link mounts...Keeping with the idea of not breaking the profile of the truss as it is now. :D

Stay tuned!

wow, that looks killer. For a second there, it looked like you put the truss on the bottom of the axle.

are you gonna put the axle in an oven and then weld it???just wondering cause my buddy bent his axle by just heating it up with a torch and welding a truss on it..

I think you should put another one under neath, Make them wider and then tie them together top and bottom and maybe one across the back to help prevent flex like the drag racers do. Looks like a little underkill to me!:haha:

What, I didn't say it!:haha:

Today I started working on a pivoting leaf spring pad thingy-
P1010041.jpg

5 1/2 x 3/4" Allen bolt and 1.5 solid stock with 3/4" hole.

The spring will be clamped together by 2 pieces of 5/8 or 3/4" plate and 4 bolts/nuts. The large piece if 1.5 stock will weld to the bottom of the bottom u-bolt clamp plate. The two shorter pieces will weld to the axle tube/truss, with the bolt ran through the center of all three. Like a hinge on steroids. :o That will allow the spring perches to pivot a small amount. I'll also be building a pretty cool wrap bar centered over the chunk. The truss will be tied into the pinion support housing with a large piece of 3/8" plate, leaving me a perfect flat spot to build a wrap bar off of. That should take away 95% of the "wrapping" force that the bolts on the pivot mount would see if there were no wrap bar. :D

Yup, just like that. ^^ But beefier...I feel that with as much stress that bolt/mounting plate recieves, over kill is a good idea. :D:haha:
