2004 Scion xA. I want to do a tune up, but this is the first time touching something newer than a 90, where you change plugs, wires, rotor, yada yada. What would a tune up consist of on a vehicle of this year?

Well, 5 years ago I "tuned" one up with the front of my blazer. :haha: That poor new car didn't even stand a chance.

Seriously though, it probably has coil packs so you might only be looking at spark plugs, air filter and an oil and filter change.

Not sure about the Scions, but a lot of the newer cars have coil-on-plug. So you may not even need wires. Take a good look at what's going on under there before you go buy parts.

But I can assure you, there's no cap and rotor...

Cabin and Air filters, PCV valve, LOF, plugs should be good for 100K, I`d do them though. Also clean the throttle w/carb cleaner or the like, they tend to gunk up. The car will need to be driven, so the throttle can relearn it`s cleanliness. Ck the coolant also should be pink Super Long Life, also ck the serp belt.

if you do plugs then its best to use the same style/brand that you removed. search this its been talked about alot.

They say these plugs can go 100k. Us and everyone we talk to change them at 50,000. Because at 50,000 the fine wire platinums are already about burned off.

LOF, plugs, fuel filter, intake and injector cleaning, and air filters. Should be ready after that.

I recently replace the serp belt (the main belt) because it would squeal bad on start up, especially when wet. When I first put the new one on, it was quiet, but after a week it squealed on startup a couple times, and when wet can hear it squeak. Could it be the other belt (p/s)? or just need to be tightened up? What should the tension be?

TIA!

Ck the P/S belt, make sure it`s not dry or cracked, tension it like any other belt tight, but not super tight. I don`t know what the spec is.

alot of ricer's i work on with serp belt but not run with self tensioner i tell them thay have to have the belt re tightened in 1 week. from break in. after that no problems.
