Hey guys...I made one decision and now have another. I bought my tan K30 back from my buddy instead of buying a blazer. I bought a set of welds and 35s. Now...I need to lift it. The front fenders are trashed so I don't mind trimming those a little. But, for all around mild off roading...trails, a little mud etc. Should I just stick with a good flexing tuff country 4" lift?

Tell me what you think.

I vote for 6", a week after you have a 4" and 35's you will want 6" 37's save your self the hassle and go strait to the good stuff!

Big question is this. what can you get away with or without doing on a 4" than a 6". LIke lengthened drive shaft, maybe have to lower trans case, extended brake lines, new pitman arm, etc etc. I think 4" you can squeak by without some of this stuff. I jus went with a 2" ruff country lift and 33s, but I wanted my K5 as a DD and didnt want to get too crazy with it. lol.

x2, sort of. i'm on 33s and stock right now, and will add my 4" lift whenever i get around to it, but i have reservations about it. i don't want to give up my off-camber trail stuff, but i'd like better approach, departure, and breakover angles. and, i need it streetable because i have to drive long distances to wheel.

the part where i don't totally agree with badmix is that "squeaking by" may be what gets me (and you) in trouble. if you mod the d-shaft and stuff for a 6", you're set (in theory). if you push your stock parts to the limits to handle 4", you might drop the shaft out of the case, bust more u-joints, etc.

maybe that wasn't all that helpful. :dunno:

with a 6" you need

brake lines
drop pimtan arm(i stlil need one)
obviously the shocks and evreything, idk if you have a slip yoke in the rear, if you do then you shouldn't have a problem with the d.s. since i am at stock and have no problems as of now.

4"

Thanks guys....thats is what I have been thinking. I already have shocks for a 4" and rear blocks and I can get my hands on 4" springs. If I go 6" I have to stick with a 35+" tire and I am thinking if I run across them I will pick up a set of hummer 315/70/17s on a 17x9 wheel....so then a 6" will be too much. I guess since I have most of the parts for a 4" that will be the cheaper way to go and I can always go higher with zero rates.

Thanks!!

Sorry to hijack the thread but i have a quick question on the 4 inch lift. What else will i need to do besides the lift kit? Will i need to do anything with the steering or lengthen the drive shafts? Becuase im doing a 4 inch over a 6 inch so i dont have to deal with that.

depends what the "kit comes with. theres a raised steering arm for the 4 inch and maybe a brake line drop bracket. youre gonna have to adjust your drag link if im not mistaken to recenter your steering.

Decision made

Bought 4" TC ez ride front springs
Bought 3" rear blocks(for now)
Had front and rear u-bolts
Had 4-Doestech shocks
Total cost $333.00

I have a drop pitman arm coming but since I don't drive this every day it should be ok for a week or two.

Then:

ORD steering box brace
ORD front shackles and bushings
ORD shackle flip

I trimmed the already beat up fenders a bit last night so fitment shouldn't be an issue.

Thanks for the help guys.

with 4" and trim it will look like a big tired mean truck, with 6" it will be too tall for the tire.

good choice!:waytogo:

Looks good. You made the right choice, IMO. Nothing looks better that a 4" lift with 35s. Of course, with our longer wheel base trucks we can do 4 or 6 without worrying about driveline length issues most of the time so you would have had the same amount of work either way.

my k10
6" and 37"s it fits great

but dont go too wild like my friend, 16" lift and 39.5"s

Ok....I think I am going to order the following tomorrow from Off Road Design.
1. Steering box brace
2. Shackles and bushings
3. Swaybar disconnect and bushings.

So I put the solid (lug cover) caps on the welds....I think I like the pushin ones better. What do you guys think.

OH!! I thought this truck had 4.10s but when I was working on the front end I noticed the tag on the 60 says 3.73...more work.
