np 203 vs atlas 2

I have considered the 205 swap and will probably eventually go to it just so I can twin stick it. However you stated that it is a dd mild trail rig. This is my opinion only (which doesn't mean much) but after realizing that to swap I have to buy more drive shafts and locate all the parts (not that many) to do the swap I am sticking to the 208 until it has an internal melt down. With that said, I wheel the piss out of mine. The previous owner used the truck as a dedicated mud truck for 8 years and haven't cut it any slack for the last 4 and the only problem I have had was the transfer popping out of 4h to 2h on extremely rough terrain. I would stick with the 208 if it were me.

probly what will happen is the 700R4 swap first while im stil in college, because it should be a really easy swap, worst case, ill need the driveshafts out of a civi model that originally had the 700R4. and it will make the truck wayyyy more driveable. everything else is just me daydreaming and wishng, but probly wont happen till graduation in a few years. although i do have to pop open the rear diff to pull the axles and replace the axle seals anyway... its not that much more work to throw a new diff and gears in there ;)

naww..... just the tranny for now, keep the 208 till it blows up probly, and then upgrade the axles with lockers, 4.10 gears and such. although im really not a crazy offroader, so chances are the 208 will never die, if im being honest with myself.

700r4/np205

It sounds like your on the right track. Im actually in the middle of the 700r4/205 swap. Its actually a lil more work than it sounds. You need to cut down the output shaft to make it work with the adapter. I put it together before I stuck it under the truck to check clearances and fit of the adapter. It turns out the studs provided with the adapter are too short to use with this combo. The adapter used is actually made to swap a 4x4 th350 in place of a 700r4 and not have to have driveshafts made. And to top it off yes you will need new drive shafts made since A) the 205 is a fixed yoke while the 208 is a slip yoke, B) The adapter spaces the case roughly 2 1/4" back, so this makes the front driveshaft to short C) the 208 is a flange style yoke the the 205 is a regular fixed yoke. Also if at all possible get a 205 crossmemeber along with the case. It makes makes the install a lil easier. Then you can take your time later and build a nice new solid t-case.

Hope this helps.
