After a long search I was finally able to find a NP 205 indicator plate at the junk yards. It came from a 77 GMC Jimmy with a manual. Here is a pic of what one looks like below. This was a hard part to find. 76 and 77 for sure and maybe into the 1980 model.

Here is one in an old article.

My 84 had a 205 originally and I have the shifter/boot etc stashed away someplace.Don't remember it having a indicator plate just a boot and the knob has what position is what printed on the top.The 208 that's currently installed does have a plastic cover with a lighted indicator that bolted right in where the 205 boot originally went.

Glad you found one, don`t remember seeing one of those before. I like that Hickey Blazer in the article.

yep i got one from a 80 k30 silverado .

edit guess i got one of my many k30's mixed up. got it from one of them :haha:

1973-1978 GM trucks either with 203s or NP205's had the 4wd range plate at the base of their boot.

1979-80 trucks did not have that............GM went to engraving the range postions on the KNOB for the 79 model year...........for 203's and 205's. They also did away with the thin rubber boot..............and went to a much thicker rubber boot with an internal steel boot ring.....which they continued to use until 1991 for NP205 K30 trucks.

1981... K30's would have still used the 1980 style Np205 knob with engraved shift pattern.

82-84 K30 trucks used the black pool ball knob with engraved pattern. Np208 knobs are the same......but no pattern on knob

85-91 K30 used the classic mushroom style knob with engraved top. Np208 knobs are the same, no pattern on knob..........GM used this knob on its Np241's until 1994.
