OK so I am just getting ready to replace the rear pinon seal. As I prepped for the job I noticed a little play on the transfer case out put shaft. I am running the factory rear 12 bolt, and the 465 tranny with a 205 xnsfer case.

What should I need to replace to fix the end play issue? It is side to side play not in and out. I am thinking a new seal and the out put bearing.

Is there anything special to consider when doing this? I am trying to keep it in the vehicle and fix it in a day.

Thanks a ton...

I think your on the right track...it only takes a couple minutes to take off the rear output bearing retainer (the aluminum extension piece) to check that roller bearing out, there is also 2 sets of needle bearings in the shafts, but I really doubt they're bad.

Yep, shouldn't be a big deal at all to pull that retainer housing off, then pull the bearing out. Hell they're cheap enough, if your going to pull it, (and there is a question to its quality) just replace it. Parts are more than plentiful.

Almost forgot ORD carries a ton of parts for the 205. Plus, I'm sure someone, part of the Brotherhood has parts for the 205 just lying around.

Well things did not go well. We got the outer area apart and noticed first that the seal was wrong. Called ordered a new one, supposed to be here tomorrow. Decided to pull the next inner housing and found and check the one inner rear bearing. It seemed in good shape until a pin fell out.

So now that bearing is getting replaced. On the other end of DL, I needed to replace the pinon seal, so I ordered a 1350 yoke so I could up grade to u bolts. When I took it apart, wrong seal. So now I am waiting on seals at both ends.

Hopefully it will be soon Turkey hinting starts soon...
