78 Ford F-150, getting no turning out of the speedometer drive gear in the T-case. Everything else is new: speedo gear and clip on end of speedo cable, speedo cable, Speedometer.

So gear is still in place in T-case but nothing happening on speedo when driving. If I take the cable off at the T-case I can turn the gear on the cable and make the speedo move. I have never taken this T-case apart, looks like you could take rear drive shaft and yoke off and the housing behind it. I am wondering then if the drive gear just slides off a shaft or how it is connected in there? No other problems noticeable in T-case.

400 engine, 4 speed manual, looks like NP 205, all original to vehicle.

Speedo was working, body shop cut through cable or at least partway, they drove it then speedo wouldn't work. They replaced cable still no work. I replaced everything, speedo, cable, gear, clip and this is where I am at. Drive gear feels ok but can't feel all of it, maybe worn tough to see it well.

Nice dent side, last of the round head lights. 1st thing I would check is the cable to driven gear engagement. Make sure the driven gear, drive hole isn't worn out. That it is still square and cable doesn't slip.
After that I would inspect the drive gear on the output shaft. you should be able to take a peek at it with the driven gear removed.

Cable and gear on end of cable held on by clip is new and twisting that gear moves the speedo.

I can see a little of the gear inside the T-case, may be a little worn on the teeth but that is all I can tell. Seems solid and cant move it with fingers.

2nd paragraph of original post is my question, hard to tell since I didn't put a question mark.

I know gm used a plastic drive sleeve thingy . . Not sure what for did .

My 1 truck didnt work for years until i found this out .

yes the drive gear should slide off might be a snap ring holding it on
