NP203? 1978 blazer problems and questions

Also looking at the front axle , it looks like a 10 bolt , which they started in 1980 I think ?

its a dana 44 front, 12bolt rear, i took some pictures of the shifter linkage, will post in a few,

Best I could manage, hope this makes things clearer to someone who knows what they are looking at

Ok, thast IS a 203 shifter. Someone just used a 208/241 shifter cover rather than just the factory shift boot. Sounds like you're gonna have to find the proper procedure for adjusting the linkages and that should remedy your problem. Those shifters are known to be a problem though as well so you might need to take it apart and clean it really good then reassemble it and lube it properly.

jump to conclusions much??? just because it has a different shift boot/cover on it doesn't mean it has the wrong shifter for the t-case.

pictures are always needed first. these trucks are so old, who knows what's been swapped out.

I've got the chiltons guide and it has a little step by step on how to adjust the linkage, however I am a visual person and just reading the text on what to do is very confusing.

Can the adjustments be done without dropping the t-case?

no, you do not need to drop the t-case. i think you put the case in neutral?? then you slip a specified drill bit thru both shifters. if it doesn't line up, you adjust them till it does.

I did not jump to any conclusions. Pics are worth a 1000 words my friend. The guy posted a pic and it was of a 208/241 shifter. I also said he should post pics of the underneath area of the shifter linkage so we could see what someone has done (which he did and turns out someone mix matched parts) so i posted that he DOES HAVE a 203 shifter (once again, pics are worth a 1000 words).

Can't adjust it right now but do you guys think this will solve my tcases inability to stay in what is now 2h? It will stay in 4hi for a good while but occasionally slips into neutral

post #14 , even after you seen the pic, u said it had the wrong shifter. only the cover was wrong.

jack- get it adjusted then go from there.

You need to check the settings on how your browser presents these threads.
4X4 posted twice as to whether or not it was the right shifter. I think your browser is not showing the threads in the order in which they were posted.

Post 14 was after he saw just the shifter cover, and he said that was the wrong shifter.
Then, Jack posted a picture that showed it was the right shifter, just the wrong cover and that was what 4X4 then corrected himself to say.

However, THAT picture was way after post 14. When he posted 14, the picture that explained it all had not been posted yet.

Read when the posts were posted, not the numbers. I know my browser will present threads by poster, date, and a couple of other ways.

ya, i don't think so. go back and read them.

he corrected himself after jumping to conclusions that somehow, someone rigged a 208 shifter to a 203. all by just relying on the boot that could be changed at anytime.

like i already said, most of these trucks have been modified and parts swapped out to keep them going. so you can never go by what certain year trucks came from the factory with. without naming names, that's what people do, you ALWAYS need pics before trying to figure out what the problem is.

Anyone notice the factory cut shifter hole and bolt holes for the 208 shifter? It also doesn't look like the floor hump is removable, plus the previously mentioned seat mounts. I'm thinking a body swap has been done, but the front clip, frame and running gear are original.

Ok, I am out under the truck and successfully adjusted everything however there is one issue, there are 2 arms that both have to be in the six'oclock position, getting them there was no real issue however the second one in is wobbly and i cannot snug it up like the outer one. any thoughts or input from someone who has done this?

Can you take a pic of the front axle, I was thinking it was a ten bolt. Just our of curiosity , hasnt nothing to do with your shifter or tcase.

there already is in post #12. see the ears on the axle? = 10 bolt.

I am not so sureits a 10 bolt YZEATER, here is a better shot of it. Its not so much of a circle or semi circle like a 10 bolt is. if you look at the top of the diff, it has a slant going to the right and is rounded on the left. im going off of the axle identification on CK5's main page
