NP203 Removal from 74 Blazer with TH350

I know this thread is about the transfer case, but the TH350 is part of the deal, so what are the things to watch for on the tranny...

do I remove the fluid from it first?

Will fluid come falling out of the torque convertor?
:dunno:

I don't know much about transmissions...

like i said before in post 17

DRAIN ALL fluids first its better in the end.

and yes some fluid will drain from convrtor . take good clean empty 5 gal bucket and set conv in it with drive dog down so it will drain all fluid out over a few hours or so.

A new torque convertor should be part of the rebuild process...shouldn't it?

What Bret said.

Rather than try and figure out what will or will not happen, you should always plan on draining all fluids no matter what. 9 times out of 10 you will be putting in new fluids anyways. So its just easiest to flush them all out before removing anything. And mainly for the sake of less mess on the floors. And on you, too.

Forgot to add:

Every time I've bought or sold a motor, tranny or t-case to or from someone, I've always asked them to drain all fluids as I do the same when I sell my stuff. The less mess in the back of your truck or trunk will make you much happier. The same goes for the project at hand for you.

Chief Brody : yes a new or full quality reman is in order. :waytogo:

Which brings me to this question....what should I ask the transmission man for? A transmission recondition or rebuild? What should I expect and what would you do...how do I know the man isn't just replacing the o-ring and charging me for a rebuild?

Get the full rebuild. And ask for the thicker K-case, too.

Seems like there is a cable that attaches to the passenger side of the transmission that is b!tch to get out....

Thats the kickdown cable. Its simple to remove.

May get started on this tomorrow...pictures to follow...if I don't get pinned under the Blazer and crushed

pic #4 starts to show the bolts for adaptor to tcase on outer edge. and some have the shifter bracket bolted to them also.

along with drive shafts this is the ones to drop the tcase.

in pic posted you can see the bolt hole locations minus the 4 in the middle that hold the adaptor to tranny. if me i would start at the bottom 4 and work my way up to the top so 1 guy pulls last bolt or 2 and 1 guy catches and helps gide down.

I'm still not seeing it...there's nothing to wrap a ratchet strap around...and I only see two bolts on the bottom and the three at the top on the front side...

I'm not so sure that this wouldn't be easier to drop the transmission and T-Case as a unit....from above with the engine hoist looks like I could just wrap it in a sling and get it supported on the hoist, then remove the cross member and unbolt the transmission...anybody? :dunno:

That would work fine im sure, do whatever you feel most comfortable with, you cant act like these weight 800 lbs or something, they really arent horrible crazy heavy, IMO though, i get a buddy, we start rippin bolts out, in half hour or so things are laying on the ground and we are on to somethin else. If you are by yourself though its hard to drop it alone.. and unsafe, so if get the weight balanced well on the hoist, remember that tcase is heavy, prolly almost as much as the tranny if not more as far as balancing everything reasonably.
