OK Next post I should be all grown up and able to post URL's :D

Well, it kinda saddens me to give this synopsis but perhaps it will give another person a LOT of ammo in rectifying the situation.

I have spoke w/ Mark Bendler of Kodiak Engineering ( He built an original monster truck called KODIAK and he builds and sells NP205's all day long) and he basically says there unavailable and I asked him if the TCA6,TCA4 or the TCA2 would work, sending him the pics I have below (less mine) and he says no;

Additionally I have spoke to Joe Dantuono of SMP Corp whom I believe
originally made all these switches and his reply is as follows;

"
Your'e not gonna like this, but it looks like a TCA-3, which is obsolete. I don't even have a computer pic, found it in an old paper catalog. Fit early 80's vehicles. We used to get it from GM # 14024304, but I see they discontinued it also. Sorry.

So maybe you Chevy Parts Gurus can look at this Chevy part number and find me 2 of these puppies, and for chits and giggles I have some detailed pics of the offending unit, which is believed to be the TCA-3.

and

Notice numbers 15121
and when you roll it a lil more you see 359,
so 15121 359 is the number stamped into this puppy...
(Gawd I LOVE MY GLASS BEAD BLASTER! )

I betcha some place someone has a few dozen of these that are behind a headlight for a EVA-1 Ha! :crazy: PLEASE rsvp if you have these NOS or like new or?

I've never pulled one out of an early 465 transmission, but the plugs look the same IIRC. Not going to help I'm sure. :(

I don't really see why the later switch (which is still available) won't work. Is there a detent ball and spring that go against the shift rail on your setup? Other than the plug itself, that switch looks similar to what the newer ones use, the plunger looks ldentical. Wouldn't take much length difference to cause problems, but that would require a different shift rail if the switches are not interchangeable.

What about Napa and their Echlin line? Just a thought. Napa has been pretty good to me.

If you've got a good part number, dealers can search other dealerships stock, might get lucky. I have. Also, just google the PN (TCA3 and/or GM) and see what comes up. Might find something in an ebay auction, etc.

If you measure the dimensions of the switch plunger (plus the travel) I can probably get you the same for the newer one, and at least you'll know if they are close.

Got the measurements finally.

Plunger travel is .156", at rest plunger sticks out from bottom of threads .287".

Not sure if that will help, but can't hurt.

10-4

Currently I have painters comeing out the ying yang and trying to keep them in line and not hose me...

Thank YOU

PS, That TCA4 is looking like the one to gamble on maybe...

That one is interesting. Looks like they combined the ball/spring/switch into one unit. Not sure why GM didn't do that in the first place lol. :)

The NP 203 also came with a indicator switch. At least my 78 did. Is this the same switch that is used in the np 205?

Yeah I think the newer switch is the way to go since the old is discontinued. I called around and NAPA and Carquest do not carry the old switch.
