in the process of rebuilding my NP205. I'm robbing the rear output of an older model in order to eliminate the slip-yoke on mine. Anyway, the newer case has the red plastic speedo gear. The older one is metal. Same in every way, but metal...us this "more desirable" to keep? Only reason I can think is it might be less likely to break for some unknown reason...didn't know if there are any problems associated wit the the metal ones.

Run the metal gear if you can. IIRC the later 205's had a splined section on the rear output that the speedo gear splined onto and if yours is like that the steel unsplined gear may not work on the splined shaft.

yeah it is...wasn't sure but went out and double-checked. that's cool tho since I'm going to use the older non-splined output shaft anyway (in order to get rid of that slip-yoke)
