Does anybody have one of these they would sell? The long rod one, and not the other frame mount one.

List a length or transmission and the rods are different overall lengths based on trans / tcase combos. Also, fwiw I'm fair certain a 208 has a longer bolt spacing on the side so those rods don't interchange.

From the research I have done GM made only one transfer case strut rod bracket for the NP205 transfer case (GM part # 14020856). This strut rod bracket first became available in 1985, and fit all 1985 - 1991 GM 4X4 trucks with an NP205 transfer case, and a T400, 4L80E, or SM465 transmission.

1980 with a th400/205 had the brace...i will have it in my shed.

Are you talking about the long rod type one or the frame mount one? The frame mount one was available prior to 1985. The picture I posted has both the NP205 transfer case to bell housing strut rod type, and the NP205 transfer case to frame type. I am only looking for the strut rod type because the frame mount type was proven to cause cracking of transfer cases and transmissions rather than protect them from cracking.

I can see the 205 bar being one length from ‘85 on as I think GM standardized the crossmember location but you still needed to at least specify ‘85+, as stated the bars were available before ‘85. I’ve heard of them on late 70’s 203 applications but never seen one.

That frame bracket stopped in the mid to late 70’s.

The strut rod would be for a 1991 Chevrolet V3500 crew cab with an NP205 and 4L80E transmission. It going to go on this truck. I need to install a strut rod before I take this truck out to get an exhaust system, in order to make sure the exhaust system clears the strut rod properly.

That is a good way to confirm I got the right one before I box it for shipping.

If you still want to sell the one you got, I will take it because the picture you sent me is definitly the one I am looking for. No other transfer case strut brackets look like that one but the 1985 - 1991 NP205 one.

I have a few in the garage , I can check them out if ya haven't found one yet
not on her much so shoot me am email K30BB468 at yahoo.com

I want to.
I am just being thorough so you don't get disappointed .
I will measure today and get you a shipping quote before the end of day

Do not worry about the measurement. This strut rod is not enough money for me to worry about it being wrong. Just get the quote for everything, and then we will work out the details about getting the money and part sent to each other.

Honestly now that I`m not drunk and tired I believe I had the version that ran from the t case to the engine mounts. Its been a long time since I swapped that stuff out.

I just checked and the slots make it bolt to both the 205 and 208.
I packed it and I will get you a quote for shipping.

The one for a 4L80E is about 36" total length. About 32" to the first transfer case bolt or 35" to the second.

While the TH400 and 465 transmission and transfer case length is the same from mid 85 to 90, I think the rod for the 4L80E is going to be longer. The adapter is 5/8" thicker and the transmission is something like 2.5" to 3" longer.

Sorry to nit pick but for the sake of correct info, (tcase to bellhousing) OR (bellhousing to motor mounts). There was no brace that went all the way from the tcase to the motor mounts.

I believe he just meant the two that run from the flexplate/flywheel cover to the engine mounts.

If you look at the picture I posted of the strut rod, you will see it has elongated mounting holes at the transfer case. This is so it can mount to whatever NP205 to transmission combo you have. Even if it is to short, I can just add a spacer at the bell housing. I will make it work one way or another.

All good! Helps others looking for info... my mistake.

Yeah your right on that.
