Found NP205 Transfer Case Strut Rod Bracket

From the research I have done GM made only one transfer case strut rod bracket for the NP205 transfer case (GM part # 14020856). This strut rod bracket first became available in 1985, and fit all 1985 - 1991 GM 4X4 trucks with an NP205 transfer case, and a T400, 4L80E, or SM465 transmission.

There are no less than three different strut rod lengths for squarebody. GM first used them in 1978 or 1979. There at least two different NP205 lengths. I have all the parts books and probably all the variants of these rods. I don't believe SM465 4x4's got a rod.

No sm465/205 I had got any help supporting the tcase, true.
By now I believe he should have it and we will see if it's the right one

and if you know your system lengths the 1991 4l80-e/205 was all its own with the longer 4l80-e over a th400 . . . so he might be looking for a tiny needle in a hay stack or still have to modify one for length .

That is what I believe I sent him.
From my 91 crewcab

I crawled under both my truck with an NP205/4L80E and a NP205/T400, to test fit the strut rod I received from imiceman44, and the mounting points lined up with both of them.

IF.....that was true, that would equate to all these items being specific to 91 4L80/NP205 over all other civilian 85-91 non 4L80

Longer front driveshaft
Shorter rear driveshaft (front section)
Longer strut Rod
Specific 205 shifter with greater offset and/or special floor pan with cutout further to rear.

I think the adapter for the 4l80e/205 is a bit shorter than the th400/205 version to compensate for extra length of the 4l80e.
And the oblong holes on the rod give it another 1/2" of adjustment.

I have both t-case adaptors . will have to check length . I just know the th400 is shorter than 4l80-e .

no tail housings in place

th400 bell to back of case 26 15/16"

4l80-e bell to back of case 30 3/8"

What year th400/205?
I know the figure 8 version is shorter.

The 77-84 TH400/205 combo is the same length as 85-90 TH400/205 combo is the same length as the 85-91 SM465/205 for given tailshaft style. The 69-80 TH350/205 is shorter as is the 69-84 SM465/205 for given tailshaft style. I have all of them. I do not have a 4L80/NP205.

Both of the TH400 to NP205 adapters are 4" thick. The 4L80E to NP205 is 4 & 5/8" thick.

All I can tell you is that the transfer case mounting side of the strut rod has elongated holes so that it can be slid forwards or backwards to fit either my NP205/T400 combination, or my NP205/4L80E combination. I know because I test fitted the one I got from imiceman44 on both of my trucks, and it fits both of them. I bet if I had an NP205/SM465 combination, it would probably fit that one too.

Round 205 to TH400 is 4".
