Np208 dimensions

Any thoughts on why one would be different over the other? The technology should be the same, am i missing something ??
Driver drop vs passenger drop transfer cases. If you have a passenger drop driveline you can keep your stock GM front axle, if you have a driver drop transfer case you will need a Ford solid axle (or other driver drop axle). The passenger drop NP241 was only used for 3-4 years and not all GM 4x4's got them.

3 years, 1 year mechanical, most rare, and 2 years electric now more wanted for the LS crowd

Passenger drop, aka 90-91 cases are very hard to come by since they were limited to only k5 and suburbans. They are most sought after by the ls swap crowd due to the vss in the tail housing.

The driver drop cases were made from 88 and up in all the gmt400 rigs, they could work in a older vehicle with a Ford axle swap I suppose.
What i don't understand is why the Vss sensor is different from pass drop to driver drop. The case is nearly identical? I suppose they relocated the fill and drain holes and maybe the VSS location, but the technology should be identical ?

I believe, (going off of memory) that the output bearing housing is clocked differently and won't swap.

It's not the vss that is the problem but the side of the front output.
Can't flip it side to side

I didn't realize you were only asking about the VSS. Looking up part numbers, a passenger drop and driver drop both use the same part number VSS. An NP208 and the first year of the NP241 use speedometer cables.

Ok, that makes more sense. I may need to go back and reread, because I thought i read a comment that they were different.
But the ole noodle is gettin old, so I don't know...
