Pulled mine tonight to fix a leak at the split that I've had for 10 years. Going to rebuild it and correct the speedo gears while it's out. I have the military rebuild manual and it all looks pretty straightforward. Questions:

1. Use the gaskets at the adapter, tailshaft, and case split....or just RTV everything?

2. Any ATF ok, or is there a recommendation?

3. Any other tips or lessons-learned I should know?

1 change the seal between the transfer case and trans its in the transfer case and check the shift forks for wear and the plastic tips
2 use the gaskets and rtv but just a light coat
3 i use synthetic atf because it was recommended by a re builder friend of mine due to the fact that 208's like to wear out the plastic tips on the shift forks and there is no oil pump
