so to make a long story short i am having trouble finding a bushing to fit in my tailshaft housing. i pressed the old bushing out and when i went to put in the new bushing in it is way to small in diameter it slides right in no press fit it wont stay in place. so off to napa i went had them pull another bushing out of the box same problem. so my question is has anyone else had this issue and what should i do? is the housing messed up? thanks.

no, napa gave me the proper part. do you have your old one and does the seal fit? your housing could be messed up, how snug did your driveshaft fit?

yep i have the old bushing the part napa gave me didnt match up you could tell my original bushing is slightly larger. the seal fits. my drive shaft fit snug no slop but my old bushing had cut in it looked like a screwdriver made it. do those housings expand with the heat of the driveshaft?

i think that expansion is negligable. i had the part number but i threw it away thinkin no one would need it. how did you get your bushing out of there? anyway to damage/make the hole bigger in the housing? i think this is just a case of wrong part in the right box. check some other places.

i tapped the old bushing out with a chisle and hammer being very carefull not to score the edges of the housing. im thinking that my old driveshaft was vibrating so much that it might have messed up the bushing and housing.?.?.? i dont know i am going to stop by a tranny shop and see what they can tell me. thanks for the reply.

thanks for the replys everyone i finally went to a transmission shop yesterday. 10 bucks later got the right bushing and the guy pressed it in for me. but i will be keeping that gm part number for future reference thanks tvonloss.

nice, have you put it back on the TC yet? when i broke the seal on the speedo thingy, it leaked. i guess the oring lost its groove.

i havent put it on yet probably tomarrow. i didnt mess with the speedo thing except to unplug it so hopfully it wont leak. hey by the way did u use rtv high temp or did u get a gasket for the seal to the tc to tail housing?

Update

Not sure if anyone's read this thread in a while, but the GM part number that was listed earlier is discontinued. I went to every local parts retailer and received a bushing that fell clean through the housing; this included PN: 5208.

I mic'd the housing at 2.010" and the aftermarket bushings o.d. at 1.998". No wonder they all fell through.

Solution: use Motive Gear PN: WT297-62 from Summit or other sources. This was perfect, if not a hair large (took a heck of a beating to press in).

Hope this helps someone out.
