Does anyone recall seeing any good articles on rebuild/reseal of the NP241. Seem how I have it out, I figure I should clean it up, inspect and reseal it....

I am no help with articles to help you, but I can tell you that when we took my son's apart, we mostly used the instructions that I had from a JB conversions SYE kit. Then I also looked at a Chilton manual.

I was glad that we tore it completely down since we got to clean the whole case of the metal contamination in front of the planetaries. The ring gear makes a spot for the contaminants to settle just ahead of it.

If I were you I would get the Chevrolet light duty trucks unit repair manual ST333-91 for 1991 trucks , might be able to find a download somewhere on here. Have you checked YouTube?

I think there was an NP241 tear down tech article on this site a one time, or maybe it was pirate4x4.com.

Thanks for digging that up. I had thought I remembered one. What is the best/proper silicone to seal up the half etc. that will with stand the t-fluid?

Did mine about 4 months back. No manual needed. Very easy and strait forward. Took about 45 min to get out, 4 hours for rebuild and 45 min to put in. One of the easiest thing I have done to my K5.

Always good to have manual in my experience. Especially if you are a beginner. If for nothing else torque sequence of fasteners and what parts to look for wear ,ect., To each his own , I geuss.

You are right it is always good to have a manual. I forget I have been doing this for over 20 years now. I torque by feel at this point.

Mine was very simple. Check the shifter fork pads. That was the way I was able to determine that my junkyard 241c had barely ever seen 4wd. They looked brand new. The biggest challenge is getting the pump lined back up but that is pretty easy too. I just used the SYE instructions too. Just put it back together the way you took it apart, just cleaner! Lol

GM recommends the"annulus gear " not be removed ,or damage to the case will result. If there is noticeable damage/wear to this gear, the case half with this gear must be replaced. It is things like this that a novice such as myself would never know without the aid of a GM unit repair manual. Never assume anything. You know what they say about assumptions.
