NP241 Strength? - not for truck

Here's what I was thinking.HPIM1187.jpg

I know that also make ones that have a transmission on them.

I found this... Kind of interesting.v-drive-types.png

Might be a solution in there...

My mad paint skills at work here.. rofl. Blue/green would be v-drive or t-case or whatever. Black line would be jackshaft.

If I used a corvette transaxle it would have mounting on the back end of the transmission case and the diff is already setup for IRS.

hmm, maybe not so good can't get reverse cut gears for vette I'm pretty sure.

I would use the Corvette transaxle.. because I am cheap and like factory parts.
Mount it normally and just do away with the back seat...

Not enough room for that. Engine would be up in the front seats - vette diff is on the wrong end of the transmission to work outta the box. Planned on loosing the back seat.

Just found the hemi under glass used a very similar system... never thought about it.. axle is in backwards.

The Roadkill guys did something similar in the Stubby Bob episode. It had a V drive and a big block, IIRC

Alot of wheelstanders are like that.

I had forgotten about stubby Bob. Actually some build insight there.

Here's a thought.......
How about a complete corvette conversion. Front engine and rear transmission? I've seen multiple v8 front engine corvair conversions. And the corvette split set-up should get you close to ideal weight dist.

The tranny/diff is running $600ish on ebay, a good used 5.3 about the same. Just needs the torque tube arrangement, front engine mount and engine management. Everything else you were already planning. Should also, oddly enough, be a less expensive arrangement than most other solutions.

Yeah I agree, but that has a bunch of it's own problems cutting up the front trunk area, and kinda takes away the spirit of the corvair being 'odd'. I do like the v-drive idea and have seen that it's been used successfully by many in some pretty tough circumstances and survives well.

Olds Toronado or ( 1970 )Caddy Eldorado transaxle...I think by the time he gets done screwing around with this science project it will be a big expensive mess that will end up in the weeds for 30 years. I'd keep looking for the Toronado transaxle.

Just the belly tank will set you back a small fortune now a days...

do the moon buggy thing, turn a 4 cylinder motor/transaxle sideways and connect the axles to the rears..just gear it for speed instead of crawling

There is a belly tank about 10 miles away from my town for sale..:D..aluminum belly tank, lakester

You can't use an ls engine w/ a toro trans - doesn't fit around the diff. Also, no gearing options out there.
