I’m working with a 94 GMC 2wheel drive 1/2 ton with a NV 3500

I have the trans out of the truck and I have another NV 3500 sitting in the garage as well. I’m trying to figure out what trans to put back in?

They look the same but after taking the shift towers off they are slightly different.

Maybe one is better to use than the other?

The first pic is my spare trans with part number 8680835

The second pic is the one from the truck with part number 18564.

Is the gasket on no.2 covering up the same parts showing in no.1 ?

Otherwise I got no idea. . . .
Good question but no. The first picture and trans has the extra parts. That why I was wondering if it is newer updated or some shit like that.

I read something on the www that the later models had improved shift feel and reduced noise. Also supposed to be not as fragile. I have no experience, just read that.

Hmm.
Well I want to slam this thing back together tomorrow so I think I’ll just go with the first one. It has been apart before by the looks of it, hopefully rebuild at one point? I got no history on it or the original from the truck. We bought the truck not working.
If it’s crap I only lost some time and oil.

Talked to Russell last night he helped me decide to use the spare trans we have. Only because the clutch fork ball is in good shape on it and the other is loose and worn.
As far as differences in the trans the only thing is that extra bit of shifter business going on that must be for making the shifter less noisy. Like Fastereddie was saying.
