we have our dads old 1977 k2500 with a 4 speed. we don,t use it very much its too slow. got 33 inch tires 410 ratio and the 350 was replaced with a 6.2 in 1993. we want to get here back on the job ( running errans). what would be best nv 4500 or a gear vendor? i have read somewhere were nv 4500 were not geared for a 6.2!! maybe with a banks turbo it would be better!!now the other problem is none off this is available locally.:dunno: anybody know off anybody who could set me up with a reliable vendor or scrap yard who would have parts?

what are you going to use the truck for? thats the real question.

if youre just looking for overdrive, ive heard good results from putting the NV3500 behind that 6.2 diesel. the gear spacing is better than that of the NV4500 for that engine, but its not as strong a transmission. so it depends on how hard youre gonna be working it. A turbo is not a bad idea, i myself plan on running a turbo'd 6.2 backed by a NV4500 when all is said and done.

The NV4500 has about the same gear spacing as the SM 465 plus the overdrive...so it won't be any different to drive except when you get to highway speed you'll have another gear to drop it into getting your cruise rpm down to ~2000 rpm. Should work fine with the 6.2 and should cruise happily up to 75 mph if you wanted.

A gear vendors would accomplish the same, except it would only be useable in 2WD. Another option is the Ranger overdrive box.

been checking advance adapter, they sell a kit for 1996 to 99 gm nv4500,if i understand right there bell housing keeps the mecanical clutch linkage. and has an adapter for the 205. anybody ever used this system ,dose it work good. except drive shafts is there anything else ? price is ok for everything you get i suppose!!!

if your current tcase is a 10 spline and figure 8 style adaptor.

you will prob have to find a 205 from a 85-up 400 or 465.

will need long 32 spline input and round 6 adaptor style face.

post up links to what you think you need so we can get you 100% info.

advance adapter part # 27-0030 don,t know how to post link:dunno:. its in the (nv4500 retrofit adapter packages)if i read it right my 10 spline transfer case will fit ,and i also keep the mecanical clutch .its worth 967.23 looks complete except transmission, witch i made a few phone calls and didn,t find any yet!

i would do more research here first. lots of 4500 info on here.

get all the info and make a good choice. just sayin.

Lots of NV 4500 info but not much on gear vendors. I now know 2 guys with em, both behind TH400s and they love them.

I plan on getting one for my daully some day

because i have a 6.2 kit doesn,t use bellhousing.because a 6.2 starter is larger an dosn,t fit. for same price the bell housing is replaced by a different main shaft and a 1 inch adapter between transmission and original bell houising.shipping is reasonable!! found a nv4500 locally 450 dollars in a scrap yard should get it early next week. where can i get a bearing kit for a nv4500?

well its a 1994 too1993 transmission he had doesn,t fit with advance adapter kit. rebuilt 1996 too1999 nv4500 goes for 2100.00. got a quoate yesterday!!! its the same price i got from advance adapter. was going too install new bearings in the old one so:dunno:. febuary is when we have time too do this, its real close . anybody know where i can find a better bargain or is this price ok?

There's places online for much cheaper. I got mine from a dealer on eBay.

Looked at the Ranger OD? If The Blazer already had a SM465 that worked good I'd put a Ranger in front of the SM465. OD AND gear splitting.

I've heard the Gear Vendor unit isn't so great for 4x4 use. Dunno how important that is for you.

Went with the NV3500 then?

Was about to say with a bit of clean-up the regular AA bell for a NV4500 can be made to fit over the 6.2 starter...that's what I ended up doing.
