I am starting with the 350 Motor/700R4 Trans/208 TC combo. Does anyone have a list of parts I will need to swap in a 12 valve with NV4500? I have the 1996 12 Valve but not the NV4500 yet. Where can I pull the trans from and what mods/parts will be needed, etc... Thanks for any help.

My 94 GMC crewcab has a 12v cummins in it with an NV4500 behind it.I went with the cummins to dodge motor plate.Dodge bellhousing. Then I picked up a dodge NV4500 and installed a chevy NV4500 output shaft in it ,this allowed me to bolt up the chevy transfer case without any issues.Use a chevy NV4500 tranny mount on the dodge NV4500.The 94 GMC clutch master/slave assembly originally on my truck worked with the dodge tranny with some minor modification.Hope this helps, let me know if ya have anymore questions.

Awesome! It gives me a good place to start. Thanks. I have also found a 1995 Chevy 2500 4x4 with the trans and such for 850. Will 95 and 88 interchange when it comes to the clutch master/slave assembly?

Check into the differences between Gm and dodge 4500's seems there's a considerable difference from what I was hearing web trying to put my Gm one behind my 12 valve.

The 1995 year for chevy NV4500 is a split year, the early chevy NV4500 will not bolt up to a dodge bell housing ,as the the four mounting lugs are spaced differently.the later chevy NV4500 will bolt up to a dodge bellhousing, although the input shaft snout to pilot bearing ID may be different.

Look for the later model GM 4500's like said, the ealy ones will not work. My K5 is running a 95 12 valve, dodge bellhousing, GM 4500 (from a 00 diesel truck) with a oversize Dodge input shaft and bearing retainer, with a GM round pattern 32 spline 205 behind it. I am using a long input t case with the Advance adapters 1 5/8" spacer, as I did not like the amount of "clearencing" of the tail housing on the trans in order to run the short input (the case will bolt right to the back of the trans).

Another option is to use a Dodge 4500, which is 29 spline, and find a Dodge 205 from a first gen 89-93 cummins truck with a manual. I looked into that setup and ran into problems finding the t case so I went the GM trans with Dodge input route.

As far as clutch hydro's go, that can depend on what clutch you run. I'm using a South Bend twin disc so the stock stuff wont cut it, Im using South bend stuff with a modded mount tied to stock GM hydro pedals.

I dont know if he is still around, but, there is a guy named Scott (Tennessee diesel conversions) his screen name is crewcab59 IIRC and he sells or used to sell a clutch hydro setup that was a bolt on for this swap. I have not seen him here in a while but I think he may still be active over at 4btswaps.com (same screen name) he is a decent guy to deal with.

If you have any questions feel free to ask :D

also check out this thread>>>http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=288534 he recently swapped from a getrag to a 4500 and had some good info on how he did the hydro stuff.

Ok so the early nv4500 (6:34 granny gear) cant work behind the cummins cause of the bellhousing situation? That sucks i just got the nv4500/round 205

Correct, it won't bolt to the Cummins bell, and for some reason I don't think you can install the required input shaft and bearing retainer IIRC.

For you guys that have already done the swap. . . . .
How loud is it inside the truck? I have been thinking about doing this to my 86 Suburban. I just don't want it to be crazy loud in there, you know? :dunno:

It's relatively loud but not ridiculous, honestly most of the noise in mine comes from wind and tire noise. Put in all the sound insulation you can while the motor is out and you'll be good.

Thanks man! sounds like a plan, right now I'm running a 454 and a 700r4. The Suburban is kind of a jack of all trades (light trails, camping, towing). It's not loud now at hwy speeds, the low rumble of the BB is easily drowns out with the radio. Those Cummins motors seam to just make a crazy racket! lol Thank you for posting! I like the truck way to much to get rid of it. I just need to update it to get it doing what I need it to. Towing the Blazer better. lol

I like that burb :waytogo: with a cummins it would be even cooler :D

As someone who spent over a 1/4 million miles (335k) driving a 00 24 valve, honestly, you kind of get used to the noise :dunno:. Between the turbo whistle, 4" exhaust, and honestly the loudest of the cummins engines IMHO, after awhile you don't notice it anymore.

Definitely run the exhaust all the way to the back, run a muffler, and if you sound deaden the firewall and floors it wont be to bad. 12 valves are a bit quieter then ISB 24's, and obviously common rails are really quiet in comparison.

On my K5 I plan to do a spray on sound and heat deadener on the entire inside firewall and floors and then carpet with insulation over that.

Thanks for the info jt512. I have just started thinking about it. The 454 runs like a top, I just know the diesel would tow a lot better. I am really gonna try and make the Blazer bash next year. This is one of the things that will need to be finished before then. (or) I will just borrow a truck.

Mine was pretty loud until I did FatMat on the front floor. Although I drove it for a while with basically no tranny tunnel too. Now I can barely hear the motor, it's all exhaust. It wasn't bad with a muffler and side exit in front of the rear tire. Now with no muffler and a 6.5" stack it's louder but mainly at lower rpm's getting up to speed. Cruising, even around town, it's fine.
