Over drive, is over rated in my opinion. I swapped it out and never looked back, even on the street.
Tough call, but overdrive is generally over rated IMO.

Sounds like somebody doesn't drive their trail rig on a daily basis.
If i only drove my truck a couple times a week i'd be fine with my th350 or a sm465... Driving it every day for the last 5 years makes me want an overdrive NV4500 tranny big time.. every time i get on the freeway and taching 3500 rpms speeding to keep up with traffic, i would not mind having another gear at all. If i had OD i'd probably have more speeding tickets. /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif
Hmm.. $1500 tranny swap or $1000 30mpg beater car.. /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

3500 RPM?

You're driving WAY too fast then.

My truck even with 5.13s wouldn't be that bad going down the highway.

I don't drive my trail rig, but last year I drove the [censored] out of it, even on the expressway, and this year I have made multiple 4 hour + runs down the highway without issues.

You have bigger tires.

They're only .5" taller. Last I checked ryan was running 38x13x16 TSLs

35" M/T for daily driving. 38" TSL's for wheeling. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

75mph with true 35's= 3469rpms. with true 38's= 3200 rpms.

All you manual guys wishing for OD. /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif The great part of being an auto lover...mine came from the factory with OD. /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

Just had to stir the pot with you stick and pedal pushers. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif Just messing, both my work trucks have manuals
1 '87 F600 service truck with a 5spd non ODd, wish it had OD!!!
2. 1998 C30 GMC dually, 454/NV4500 and I love the 4500. I just wish OD was a little bit steeper gear. I cruze at 2500 RPM @ 70mph in 5th. Wish it was down closer to 2K RPM like my blazer.

OD sucks
a well geared direct geared transmission is as good as it gets

I did email that guy with the M37, 4bt, and Ranger O/D a while back but he never returned my email. His website is one of perhaps 2 relevant hits when you search the net for the Ranger O/D. Maybe he could post here?

iirc, parasitic loss and some shifting issues were a few things. i guess its like anything else. enough money and you can make it work, but if it worked that well you would see more.

then again i run a d60 spring UNDER, and it works, just no one thinks its a good idea
