My 700r4 to nv4500 swap will be happening soon. I have a pedal assembly. And have found a rebuilder i plan to go through unless i find a deal on a trans that i will rebuild myself. What i would like to know from people who have already done the nv4500 swap is what else i need and recs on which parts to buy where. Example flywheel, flywheel bolts, clutch kit, master and slave cylinder, hydraulic hose. Shifter boot. Trans mount ect anything else i might be forgetting. And i will be using a late model nv4500 with internal slave. Thanks in advance for any help. Mike

Well I don't have a list of everything you need, but what I can tell you is that the Clutch, Pilot bushing, and flywheel you need is the same one that came in the manual version of your truck. The SM465 and Nv4500 use the same clutch, so going to the part store and asking for the manual version of your rig will work. I will say its worth getting the "12"' clutch over the smaller sized one that fits. I'm a fan of the Luk clutch 04-064.

I was wondering if the clutch ect for my truck would work with an nv4500 good to know thanks.

The early 4500s use the 465 clutch. The internal slave need internal slave clutches.
He's right on that. All 4500's use the same 10 spline input to the disc, but the internal slave pressure plate is a different animal. The height of the fingers is different compared to the early version.

Not necessarily. There are only 2 different TOB heights for that style GM clutch. Generally Short for angled finger or three finger diaphragm and long for flat diaphragm. I can tell you that I have put a clutch that I pulled out of a 66 C10 with a 6 cylinder and SM420 into a 98 k2500 with a 454 and internal slave 4500 and had no slave distance issues. Alternatively when I put the LS in my k2500 I used the same SM465 clutch I was running in my K20 with the internal slave 4500. There is also Fork Ball lengths that change TOB distance if not using the internal slave.

I could have just found a magic combo though. They do list different kits for 96 and up. Possibly just because they dont include a TOB. LUK 04-154

I'm not saying yours didn't work, but GM, as well as aftermarket clutch manufacturers, list different part numbers for the clutches based on the '95 and earlier vs the '96 and later internal versions. Point being, if you choose to use an early clutch on a later internal slave 4500 you might be running into problems. Or you can buy a clutch for the correct trans application and not have to worry about it.

As always, your results may vary if you use a mixture between the different versions.

Re reading some of the good info i was already given by many of you guys in my "help me pick a transmission" post. ZOOMAD75 already gave me what adapters and braided line i can use with the stock master to the late model slave. So am i understanding correctly from his post i should be good if i use the stock master and stock master hose from my 90 paired with the hose and fittings he reccamended. Then buy a flywheel, clutch kit, slave cylinder, ect... from say a 1997 silverado 2500 that came with an nv4500? Just trying to pick a search vehicle while part shopping.

The part numbers I gave you will replace the stock clutch hose.

As far as clutch choice a '97 2500 with a 4500 will get you the right clutch.

Thats good to know i was thinking it was in addition to the origional hose so i had planned on replacing the origional hose now that i know it will not be used i dont have too. With an internal slave other than bleeding it there arent any special things i need to do are there? Ive been reading online and some say it should be spaced others say it should be installed with a certain number of lbs preload and shims should be used to figure it out. This confises me since the few internal slaves ive replaced had a spring built into them self setting the preload and together with that the slave would stay self adjusted with no play. Any info from someone who has installed on thease tracks would be appreciated. Thanks mike

The aftermarket internal slave units do require shimming and adjustment. I'm talking about one from Tildon or Mcleod. Oem style slave has no need for adjustment. Bolt it on and go.

I assume i will need a clutch/flywheel cover also known as dust cover or inspection plate? Anyone know a good part number on that or where i can buy one?
