TRusty did that swap in a later model K5, and there is a post in the 1st Gen forum on a recent swap into a '71.

it is quit easy, the t- case you have will bolt directly to the nv4500,
you will need the bellhousing and throw out bearing for the 5spd, and the only other piece is the hydraulic hose, the local hardware store can fix you up with the parts for it , if you buy used, all you will need new is a clutch(if your old one is weak or getting weak )

why cant a 4 spd bellhousing be used?
Different bolt pattern. NV4500's also split patterns 92-95 and 96+. Bell needs to be specific to vintage of 4500.
