Its doable but expensive and not much of a gain really save the 5600 for the cummins guys

he dosent have a NP205 factory, he has a NP241 dld or dhd

Hmmm shouldnt they be the same bell as a 4500? I always thought it was the same trans with another gear really.

they use a cummins bell housing, gas engines had a different bellhousing.......they also use a different flywheel.....swapping a 5 speed into a 6 speed cummins truck the starter wont engage the flywheel, a friend learned that the hard way......pull starting a diesel truck with 11.5:1 compression sucks.....

A 2002 Dodge with a np 205? Never heard of that.

cause it never happened....

the cummins guys dont even want a NV5600, you cant get parts for them.....and if you do.....$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

the 205 is in his k30

I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess this K30 is still square body and the T-case is a stock round pattern 205...but the original 6.2 was replaced with a 6.5.

As for the rest, i can't say much about the NV5600 other than it was never ofered in a GM and is quite a bit larger and heavier than a NV4500. The GM 6 speed was the ZF S6-650. All aluminum, integral bell, and pretty beefy. Again it's physically larger than the NV4500, but at least should play nice with other GM engines. Not the most common tranny, in fact I think GM only used it for 4 or 5 years before dropping the manual tranny altogether.

the stock dual mass flywheels were junk and they sounded like a 2 cylinder john deere tractor when they went bad, heck alot of them "knocked" from the factory.....

thanks for the replys, he desided to go another way. he did get a sm465/205 complete for 400. got a banks kit for 600 and a crossover for 250. so he did ok i think

They don't knock or sound like a 2cyl deere's,not sure where ya got that . I have two ZF's and had 3 2cyl deeres. They just start slipping or giving you hard peddle . I run South Bend units in both mine.

That 5600 is worth a fair bit to the right person. Plenty of guys willing to buy them to replace pos auto's with.

I read he decided to go a different route, but wanted to post some stuff anyway.

The biggest drawback to running an NV5600 is the size, weight, and expense. This thing is huge, literally, almost twice the size/length and weight of an NV4500! The 205 would bolt up, but would need a Dodge 29 spline input swapped into it.

The clutch problem is easily solved with a new flywheel and a starter spacer.

friends of mine (3 brothers and the father) have owned no less than 8 duramax's since 01......all 3 (brand new) of the 6 speeds had the spring go bad in the dual mass fly wheel, two of them were making light noise off the lot brand new and just got progressively worse til they would go POP, POP, POP, POP like an old 2 cylinder deere when they were running....dodges had the same problem with their dual mass flywheels but they just didnt have as many go bad as the chevys......

Thats a new one on me and I thought I had heard it all having two myself and having 2 friends with them and lots of acquaintances with them. We have a ZF6 section in dieselplace if anyone wants to check out zf6 info.

heres a nv5600 with a np205 bolted to it tht I did a bunch of years ago. you can do it pretty easily with the right arrangment of parts. but it still will never bolt up to a GM engine.
