OBA artificial high idle ideas?

Howell engine development has a plug in deal that you can use to change your idle. Don't know what it cost though.

Any idea where you saw it? Can you post a link? I've had a look but can't find it. But as my wife will tell ya, I never do look properly:rolleyes: .

I use my hand throttle. It has a friction and a non-friction mode. I think it'd be much easier to install, and would be even more useful after you come to your senses and do a 465 swap. :D

Hmm, I could've sworn I just saw a reply in here from dremu I was gonna reply to, but now it's gone! :o

The drinks are being served in the lounge................oh, so you already know.........:D

He must've deleted it.

Where did you get that puppy? Was it pricey? I need something mechanical, to vary idle:D

Well, I took my own advice and searched. :doah: So I nuked my post with a dumb question which I could answer by getting off my duff and searching =))

Looks like a bicycle brake lever and cable is the ticket. Come to think, I remember reading these when they were new... must be getting old...

Ah ha! So I'm not crazy! Hey, you even found a better picture of it than I did. :p: Good memory thinking that was me, it was a while ago (though I suppose the grabber green shifter would do a good job of triggering the memory). Anyway, I got it from sunrisecylery.com or something like that. It's an older style shifter, and I got it in 2003 when it was hard to find. Might be getting harder now.

I think it was less than $10. There's a link in one of the threads dremu posted, but it's no good now. Do a search for "friction shifter" for bicycles, I'm sure they'll be on the net somewhere.

For instance. The "Sunrace" brand seems to be important, as "nice" ones can apparently set you back >$100 :eek1:

I'm still trying to find one with the spiffy clamp-on mount, but I may brave The Real World tomorrow and go out in search of one.

Or I may put up with my fast idle solenoid for the AC, which works, but I have to bang the gas pedal after I engage the switch, as it won't PUSH the carb linkage, just HOLDS it there.

Just speculating, but I would *think* a solenoid designed to kick idle up when AC came on would have enough force to move the throttle. Kind of pointless to have one if you still have to manipulate the cable. :)

Not to mention that a solenoid would be simple to install. Millions of lean-tuned, pre-EFI engines had anti-dieseling solenoids that stepped up the idle when current was applied.

The friction devices are an interesting idea but I reckon if I can't figure out how to do it via the ECM I'll use the solonoid idea. I did a lot of reading last night on thirdgen etc and it would seem there's no way to do it with the 7747 ECM.
The search continues!

I have precisely that, and the solenoid -- factory, factory bracket, Q-jet -- does NOT have enough oomph. :( Guess I gotta go fiddle with it some more.

Bicycle shifter & shifter cable. All the new stuff is "index", be it "Grip Shift" (think m/c throttle) or the detented lever type (Shimano "Rapid Fire" etc.).
Pure friction types are getting rare for a bike shop to stock. The combo friction-index types weren't around very long. Cheep friction shifters are a $10 part.
Know what length you need for the cable housing as it's spendy for what it is. There is a difference btwn brake and index shifter housing, I'd think the brake housing would be both less spendy and work fine.

My dad has one of those solenoids installed for OBA, but no idea if he actually installed it. I'd wonder if maybe the solenoid itself just isn't bad?

For Southernspeed, no fan or PS stuff in the 747 ECM huh?
