So I’ve been working on my blazer lately and I’m all done with the suspension but now it’s on to the interior. I gutter it all out to put my cage in but i ran into a problem i have foreseen for some time. The cage i bought was for a circle track car modified to fit a full size truck. Needless to say when you open the door all you see is 5 bars in your face. You might as well just climb in the window. So my thoughts are......
1. cut the sides of the cage off and put them on hinges somehow
2. cut the sides off and run no sides
3. find a way to put a step in the side of the door.
I dont realy want to remove the sides because them the cage will lose some of its integrity. but i could always brace it from the floor to the halo like most guys do. let me know what you guys think

I'd cut out the first 6 boxes and leave the bottom three and run a triangulated piece from where the first boxes started fore and aft down to the outside of the inner bottom box fore and aft, so in affect you would have a V with a flat spot to climb through.. l\_/l

If it were me I would cut all of the horizontal "door" bars out. For a circle track car they prevent another vehicle from crushing the door in on you, but for our rigs they aren't needed and really serve no purpose at all and don't add much strength to the cage.

X2....maybe take out all horizontal bars @the doors and put a diagonal brace in instead...but imo they're not really needed.

To get outside the box, first you have to figure out how you plan to get inside the box.

Those door bars dont look very fun at all. I think it would have been better to make a cage from scratch then try to get that jungle gym to work for ya.

I agree with this circle track cages are meant for side impacts as one of the highest priorities, 4wd guys don't need as much side impact protection.

Other than that I would cut the whole side out and put it in the truck and figure it out from there.

i bought the cage for $50 so it was to good of a deal to throw away. I thought about cutting out the top bar and putting everything on hinges so the entire side slides out. maybe two pins to hold them in place. maybe i will make it sort of like a \_/. I need to install it and take it from there. Hopefuly this weekend if i can get out of a few other things.

That doesnt really solve the accessibility problem though. Now you can either pull yourself into the truck prone or dukes of hazard it...
Chit, I ment to get rid of that upper most bar as well...
