Odd wobbly tilt column question.

Here is a pic of my tube bent from it being loose and probably a big guy one time getting in and out with it loose. The plate that has the 4 screws goes in this area.

Replace bearing in column here is the $ saver yes Jeep parts but Saginaw built columns for Jeep and GM research part # and you will find post on this part # for lower https://www.amazon.com/Crown-Automotive-4487696K-Steering-Bearing/dp/B008VQ003M

Wondering if anyone looked at links I posted? I just did a complete rebuild on a column but maybe my input does not count.

I looked at some of them, and YES your input counts, but a lot of us don't respond to let you know. I know that some already know "x" amount about working on these columns, but you did a good amount of digging into all of it. (IMHO)
Of course I have to give you some grief about giving me more things to spend money on!!!

I did. I'm not planning a rebuild in the near future, but I have filed away the info for later reference. Thanks for sharing. :waytogo:

Hey so bringing this thread back up. I took apart my column yesterday and tightened the infamous 4 bolts only it did nothing to fix the play in my wheel. Is there something else that can wear out that can lead to a sloppy column? The amount of play isn't that bad but its annoying.

I removed two sloppy loose tilt colums on trucks I've owned--and never put them back, instead I bought a regular colum from a salvage yard and swapped them in..

I found the tilt feature useless,to me the only comfortable position was in the normal non-tilted one,and I didn't trust the loose feeling, always felt they might jam up or come apart on me while driving..and I wasn't confident in my ability to take the colum apart and try to fix them--figured there would be worn or broken parts that would be difficult to find and install..

But that's just me--I also prefer crank up windows and manual adjusting seats--don't even mind no A/C either--its a lot easier to work on a engine without A/C and I only wish I had it a few weeks of the year here--for the expense of keeping it working ,I never felt it worth it...the simpler things are ,the less that can eff up on it..things like power windows, tilt, etc, just become a headache after awhile..

It could have been worse... this is in my new parts truck. Rather than pulling the wheel to remove the lock cylinder they did this.

Speaking of lock cylinders. Mine seems to get stuck every now and then. I can try to turn the wheel it doesnt' help unlock it. I know @swettysblazer had something similar except he couln't turn his truck off.
