Off-road sway bar install

So all in all do you feel its worth it? Still have flex and driveability? Or more of a middle ground? Just curious.

I'll know more when I get the shaft collars on cause right now, if tr bushings slide out, it loses all effectiveness. Shaft collars get here tomorrow.

I like how this turned out and think you did a great job with the install. Now a disconnect should be easy to fab up.

Sweet job

You could make the mount on the axle quick disconnect, then spin the vertical bars up and have a mounting location dropped from the body or something to slip the pin in....

That is exactly what I am thinking! I am just going to get a longer bolt so I have enough unthreaded area to fit though the whole mount and then drill a small bolt in the end for a pin, should make it a super easy quick disco.

On the axle mount, there are two little spacers for the heims so I will just have to make sure and be careful not to lose those.

this may be a dumb question, but could you move the top part of the arm that attaches to the axle farther forward in one of the multiple holes provided to adjust sway stiffness? don't know if i'm useing the right terms or making sense, but it looks like you could have less sway control using the more forward holes, and stiffer using the rear most, like you have it :dunno:

Looks good but I'm not sure how your going to fit that trash can lid on your axle

Yea, those holes in the arm are for stiffness adjustment. I actually have it in the least stiff hole right now. The closer you get to the pivot point the stiffer it is.

Cool Project!!

I posed this question a while ago and somebody pointed me at the same kit but I never did it. I have crossover steering with 52's on the front from a 1/2 ton and the body roll can be a little creepy:eek1:

Have you thought about reinforcing the frame near those holes? That's the only red flag in my mind with the famous GM steering box frame cracks...

I actually did reinforce the frame in the drivers side cause I was worried about the same thing. I have the ORD weld in and bolt in brace so I plasma cut a piece if 1/4 inch in the same vein as the ORD weld in piece and welded that around the hole to help stiffen the frame.

i just started lookin into this for my "crazy idea" of a kinda speedy rockcrawly square body. this is awesome, how's it been holding up for you in these last few months? have you run it through the ringer plenty?

Its been holding up great for me since i did it. Been on lots of local trails and did the 700 mile (each way) drive to Moab and ran a bunch of trails out there. It makes the ride at speed much more controlled as compared to no sway bar. Definitely not more contolled than a factory sway bar but if you do crossover thats not an option anyway.

I never feel like its impeading me on trails or anything either so i have even bothered making a disconnect.

I thought of this thread yesterday when i was holding a toyota truck torsion bar and thought.....Hmmmmmmm, I could use this

Anything you do different if you'd do it again? Really thinking if this for my '78. To handle the high speed Dirt stuff I plan to do with it.

The only thing, and I still plan to do it someday, is make the link pins removable for when i want more articulation.

Awesome! Nice write up ive been looking for this exact install for a long time and finally found it. Itll come in very handy in the future.

Which kit did you buy? It looks like you got one of their universal kits but which one? They have different sized Arms....
