Man good write up! I hate that I missed it before! My "74 with 52's and 63's is pretty harry in the road. I think I might try this, once I get ti running again!
So im think im going to try this as well, been contemplating it for a while. To my understanding the tube that runs through the frame is just a sleeve to hold the actual bar correct? Why couldn't you mount that sleeve in the stock location where the front swaybar bolted too? much like the below link
Except i was thinking keeping the sleeve full length obviously so you don't run into the same collar problem you did with the box. just looking for opinions?!?!?
You can do that, currie's antirock bar has a variation of that. From my understandings yes that is just a sleeve. I have came across a manufacture that has selling a pillow block for mounting.
Those pillow blocks are what I have used on tarp systems for dump trucks. I get them at a local bearing supply. They also have some that have the mounting bolts paralell to the shaft. That style may be something to use if the bar ran through the frame. Just a thought.
Yea, that tube is just a sleeve. There are two bushings that go in the ends to isolate the rotational motion of the bar. Keeping it full length so the arms are flush against the bushing would definitely negate the need for the collars.
I really like those collars They would be awesome if weight was a concern.
Just to add more to the thread i was also toying with the idea of using a pneumatic dual rate sway bar like in the link below. I really liked this idea as you can engage/disengage using the OBA system however even disengage you would still have some swaybar limiting flex i would think. (maybe not noticeable)
At this point im leaning towards just setting it up for the best street performance and using disconnected.
goathearder: if you wouldn't mind linking the kit you purchase or maybe listing specs on tube diameters and length that my be helpfull to me as well as others.
I dont have this K5 anymore unfortunately but I just welded the tabs in the kit to the right places on the axles after I had the bar mounted. I got the kit from a place called TK1 racing. Pretty sure it was called the rock racer kit.
