Oh wtf, my death wobbles back argghhhh

The stabilizer doesn't fix problems, only dampens road vibes transmitted from the tires into the steering system. It can't cause or fix death wobble. Putting a new one (or multiple stabs) on would be like putting a bandage over a bleeding wound and calling it good. Might stop the bleeding for a little while but it won't actually fix the problem.

Like I said on SteelSoldiers get some new tires and an alignment and see what that does.

When i had the front end off the ground i tried messing with the tires to check for wobble and they seemed tight along with the steering.

I take it you already checked the obvious stuff like cracks in the framerails around the steering box, tie rod ends, shackle bushing at the frame hangers sector shaft play... ;)

try moving the tires from front to rear ??

x2 on the washer trick.

like i said, its at the mechanics now, ill see what he says and go from there, when i checked the steering it seemed tight, forgot to check the box or for frame cracks but im sure hed see that

Unless its a good 4x4 shop, they probly cant help your DW issue unless you tell them to put washers in it.

hes a good mechanic, and im sure he dosnt know about the washer trick but he knows his way around Solid front axles and such. As i said, trucks basically stock and will stay around 33 inch tires so i dont think i need anything special, i can do the washer trick myself.

Anyways, he said he replaced the stabilizer and it went away, seems fine so far, he and i checked the steering box and no issues, said the steering box was a little loose but no frame cracks.

yea i put the washers in mine infront of the house...lol... i used a large c-clamp, floor jack and drug the airhose to use the impact and..all done..

You're not using this axle any differently than GM intended (huge tires, lift, etc) and they didn't seem to need any washers or other stuff to make it not shake and wobble. This is the reason I think there's something else going on.

exactly my thoughts, which is why im hesitant to put the washers in just yet. I ordered new tires today from tirerack and im waiting on trade rims with this guy on SS, after i get those on and all set up i hope itll be fixed for good

I agree that the stabilizer does not fix a problem with the front end, however due to the differences between 2wd and 4wd front ends, almost every 4wd needs one.
You can take the one that comes from the factory off of a brand new truck and odd are it will wobble.
So, it entirely possible that he has fixed what was wrong originally, but now the stabilizer is worn out from the wobble and a new one will fix the problem.

Think im gonna check my stabilizer and check for tire wobble, otherwise ill wait for the new tires and alignment and balancing. I also might try rotating the tires too. Just gonna drive me nuts for 2 weeks. Does it matter if i have 16.5 rims in the front adn 16s in the back?

I've never had this death wobble like described here, but doesn't anyone else think tire size is likely the cause?

DW is caused by the springs not being able to control the the movement of the front end up and down on the knuckle. Washers will fix the issue so will a steering stabilizer I have two stabilizers, hydro assist is not a band aid its a fix. With 31's you should not be having an issue so I'm thinking its tires.

My bushings are toast + excessive toe out. A bump, wheel bering, worped rotor, or out of balance tier can kick the axle cockeyed then the toe out chimes in and causes the whole axle to oscillate freakishly. The rotor in my case. I have also been told weak spings could do this to :screwy: i dont think so, but maybe

you can adjust toe-in easily at home jack up the front spin the tiers and draw a chalk line around the tread now you have a good even mark to measure from i think it should be 1/16 of 1/4 but better ask Haynes or Chilton ;)
