Oil Change = Oil in skid plate... How to avoid the mess?

Another thread down in the gutter by page 2.

I use cardboard and burn it in my stove when done. Puts out a lot of heat with the oil on it.

real simple, you have to jack the front end up anyway to get to it anyway (unless its lifted, so loosen the two rear bolts on the skid and the gravity will feed it right down to your pan.

simple everyone here is over thinking it.

Why not just take the plate off? It's only 4 bolts heck you could even take 3 out, loosen the 4th and spin the plate over out of the way.

small piece of sheet aluminum ....cut and bent to fit up under the filter works for me...diverts the oil and lets it drain down into the bucket
Cardboard would work too..in a pinch.

I work at goodyear so while i mostly work with tires i do get my fair share of oil changes. The 2 idea's listed above are IMHO the best way to do it since obviously im not allowed to modify customers skidplates. Most vehicles arent too messy so i just let it pour and get some brake cleaner and a rag to wipe things up when im done and leave it lookin nice.

One of the tricks I liked the idea of was using the plastic bag the parts store gave you over top of the filter as you take it off. Keeps you clean and gets a second use out of that crappy bag.

I've never actually done this myself, however, as one more oil spot in my garage floor won't make a bit of difference.
