Hey guys, as much as I hate to admit I jave neglected to change the oil in my trans and transfer case. Ive got a little extra cash atm so I wanna do it now. I need to know what weight and how much oil for each. Not sure on my transfer case but im pretty sure its the original one for the truck. Ive already done the axles with 80/90 synthetic. I want to use synthetic in the trans and transfer case.

sm465 trans uses 80/90, the 208 transfer case takes ATF. If you have a 205 transfer case, that takes 80/90. Hope that helps...

Best way to find out what t case you have is look on the tag, no tag? find out if its aluminum or steel...IF aluminum, its a 208(most likely) if its steel, its a 205..

I have no idea how much fluid it takes, but it has a drain and fill plug so just fill it up till it pours out the fill plug...usually around a gallon of gear oil should do it and you will have a little left over...The 208 takes 2-3 quarts of ATF, same thing with the drain and fill plugs...

Just for a heads up, using synthetic on your SM465 is sort of a waste of money. I read before doing mine that mineral oil is perfectly fine in that transmission due to the fact there's never any real serious heat and fluid breakdown issues with that style transmission.

I used some extra bottles of redline synthetic I had laying around in mine when I was doing it and wanted to be sure it was OK to use. I would have saved it but figured it was time to use it!
