My factory oil cooler is leaking. Most of my driving is just around town, so I don't think I need it. Where do I get a non-oilcooler piece to go between my oil filter and engine? I searched, and could not find what I needed.

I think you can just remove the oil cooler and stick the filter on in its place.

No, you need the piece that sits under the cooler adapter. There is nothing there (now) to thread a filter on to.

Any small block chev can provide the piece you need, they come out with two bolts. (I'm sure that some really early small blocks didn't, but generally, all)

Thanks for clarifying.

The oil coolers I've seen in my experience just threaded onto the filter stud. I imagine whatever is missing would become obvious once you removed the cooler adapter.

Yes, both use the same holes to mount, once you pull the cooler you'll just see the machined recesses that comprise the sealing surfaces.

Of course... it might be better to just fix the cooler. ;)

Got the cooler off, but the fins are too close to tell where exactly the leak is.., still don't know how to fix it?

IIRC, the oil cooler radiators are aluminum.

It's most likely a fitting or the lines that are leaking, unless the cooler itself has seen some physical abuse.

The cooler was definately leaking, we pressure checked it with the air compressor to find the leak. Slathered it with JB Weld, and I'll see if it still leaks in the morning. No signs of abuse in the area that it was leaking in.

JB weld isn't going to hold on aluminum cycled hot/cold.

I'm sure you can weld something that thin/fragile, and aluminum, but not sure it would be worth it. Another used stock cooler should be easy to find for not too much.

50 bucks from the parts yards was what I was quoted, I might just run a hose loop. For now I'm gonna hope mine was a rogue copper/brass one and it holds. My radiator has been good for the past 2 weeks with JB Weld, and its the stocker.

$50 seems high for a used oil cooler.
You could always stick an aftermarket one on in its place.

You can get almost the exact same cooler as the stock one from Summit. Just search for B&M Super Cooler. A bunch of different sizes will come up I think the 10"X 11" is what you need. Measure yours to be sure. It will mount up exactly the same as the stock cooler using the stock mounting bars.
Your oil lines prolly wont bolt right in tho.
Get the one with 1/2" npt threads and then just get adapters from a hydraulic hose shop for your lines. Thats what I did when my stock cooler leaked the same as yours.

$50 is a ripoff. Someone on here would probably sell you one for $10 if they have it.
