The normal use port above the oil filter doesn't have enough clearance for the Auto Meter electrical sender....headers are too tight to the block.

Can I use this port and plug up the normal one?

I don't see why not. I know mine, and most others I've seen mount the sensor to a fitting at the back of the intake manifold, but any of those oil taps should be fine. Of course, always verify that any tap you use is actually for oil. I had a guy who thought he was going to undo a screw-in plug used to drain the block of water (boat motor) and he called to ask why his sensor wouldn't fit...

Back of the manifold? This port? (showing my ignorance on this)

Would be on the block behind the distributor and manifold on top toward the drivers side and one on the front of the block pass side if that's a Gen 1 SBC .

It's a Mark IV BBC.

can't say I've ever checked that one by the pan on a 4...
the one in front of it is coolant..

the 1/8 npt port up by the dizzy is on the top block surface that the intake sits on.. right behind where the intake sits/seals...

There are 4 (IIRC) 1/8" NPT ports along the pan rail edge which you've identified that could be used but I would use the correct port on the block behind the intake manifold near the distributor. The plugs along the side of the block are very hard to remove usually.

and your intake pic the bigger hole is for rear coolent crossover or tie in to front port . better plug them 2 rear off or link them with a hose or you will have coolent all over.

the smaller 1 you showed is just a bolt boss for stuff like throttle bracket or coil bracket.

I don't have a port on the back of the block behind the dizzy guys :dunno:

it should be off to the ds... right behind where the manifold curves..

Casting #14015445. It's a 2 bolt main.

from Mortec.com... 14015445...454.......78-90...2 or 4 bolt

Iirc, there is no port on the back of a bbc like an sbc. There is a good one on the side of the block in the front close to the p/s pump. I'll try to find a pic.

Well photobucket is sucking at the moment and my pics aren't loading o find one. The plug I'm talking about is a 1/4 pipe about 2" above the pan rail (and the smaller plugs you found), most likely a female square drive plug that'll be a bitch to remove. It'll be on the drivers side, directly opposite of the fuel pump boss.

OK. I know which one you're talking about. Thanks.

Gonna visit a hydraulic shop tomorrow to see if I can find a 3/8" NPT 45* elbow fitting. That should give me enough clearance on the headers to use the port above the oil filter.

you should be able to get ANY npt adapter from ANY competent parts place..napa, etc.. it's not anything special...

Competent. That explains why Vatozone didn't have ANY 45* fittings.

god. you guy's need to stop feeding that machine.. it's like praying to the debil... go to Napa, pay the extra 41 cents and maintain some dignity...

Believe me Paul, I know. It was the closest to the house. I walked in and asked the guy if I could look thru his brass tray. No trays anymore. I tried...

I generally use my napa local guys for daily biz thru the marina.. but I needed a 1 7/8 ball hitch on sunday. stopped in vato.. 2 18 ur old girls working, shut up, just ring my sh*t up please... :haha:

I respect the ":ineed a job aspect" I truly do.. but I've been calling local parts places for decades, I expect a certain amount of "hands on" experience, even if the guy is faking it... :haha:
