Lowes didn't have anything last night Brian. Found what I needed at a Parker fittings store close to my work.

Lowes and Home Depot are about as bad as Autozone anymore now days. If you want something "hardware store" related, you better be hitting up the mom n pop type stores.

The Lowes near me started off with a great selection of hardware, including hard to find ball bearings ,bushings, and other similar parts in the "drawers" in the hardware section..same with pipe & brass fittings, they had everything you could imagine, all displayed on a pegboard with zip ties,so finding them was easy..

However,as time went by,I noticed the things I went there most often for like bushings, bearings, and roller chain, started dissapearing--they were "out of stock" and were not going to re-order them!.."not enough sales",one older employee told me--heck,I bought all they had, that wasn't enough "demand"?..he said "yeah,a lot of people are unhappy about us not having the things we used too--but since the economy is so bad, anything thats not a hot seller is being sent back,or sold at clearance..."..he then told me his hours were cut back from 40 to 10 hours a week, and they were hiring younger employees who will be paid less--know nothing about WHAT they are selling, and pushing the older, experienced guys out...

It's not just Lowes either--a lot of places I go to looking for parts, hardware, etc, dont have the guy I dealt with for years, who knew what you wanted, where to find it,or where to get it if they didn't have it ,any more..he's been "replaced"...by two 20 hour a week kids who dont even want to look anything up,or act like your a big pain in the a$$ if they actually have to DO something besides ring up a sale...if you want to buy anything at these stores,YOU have to be able to find it yourself!..

Lowes and Home Depot here are not great for those things, but Ace hardware and a local CA store chain have decent selection of that stuff.

Closing the loop for the next guy searching. Used a 45* 3/8" NPT fitting. On the female side a 3/8" to 1/8" NPT bushing.

my 350 has one up near the distributor...God that thing was pain to get to...I had to install a new fitting on that end of it....before I took my Blazer apart I was sure I had a rear main seal leak...all the time it was that oil sending port trickling oil down the backside :doah:

I still kept the manual oil gauge though...I don't know if they loosen up on their own or what...hope I never have to deal with that line again...

That's one of those things you look for at the junkyard to have spare parts.

You haven't lived, until you have to remove a busted off brass fitting in a small block chevy engine's oil pressure port, with the engine in the truck...

Been there!..:doah:..and everything I used to "extract" it just ended up hogging in out and making brass shavings..last thing I used finally got the remains of it out--one of those "square" E-Z outs...spiral ones suck!..was a miracle the threads weren't wiped out by the time I got the little threaded shell that was left of it out of the block..if the truck hadn't had a 2" body lift I doubt I would have been able to fix that too!..
I know a guy who had the brass fitting for the oil sender unit to his truck break off,he ended up taking lead fishing sinkers and smashing them into the port,so he could get home one night !..if I remember right he never "fixed" it either!..

if it's doesn't work, it'll be that Teflon tape.. hopefully it cut thru in a couple spots... electric senders should always get pipe dope of some sort, aviation seal, #300, etc...

Good to know! :waytogo: I was going to ask for any pipe threads on a engine, the same thing applies?

I use Permatex Thread Sealant on all my NPT fittings Paul.

:thumb: Cool I have the same setup on my BB. But haven't tried it...will it work around headers?

Yep. About 3/4" of clearance and no issues sliding the headers in with the sender in place.

ok, awesome.. it just looked like tape in that pic....

that only applies to electric senders, they need to make ground thru the fitting/threads usually....
