Hey all!

my mother in law has a 2000 intrepid, a bit over 100,000 miles on it.. it has developed the random habit of shutting itself off while going down the road. it starts right back up with no problems.

Any TSB's on the issue? any ideas? their corner garage is stumped, so I bring the issue to you guys. she lives in pittsburgh ( east mckeesport, really ) so I have to assist from a distance.

Thanks!

I would suspect the Mass Airflow Sensor. We had a Grand Am that would run fine but had a some issues. When you slammed the hood down it'd die. Start it and try slamming the hood and see what it does. Holla back and good luck.

Been there

I used to drive a 1999 Intrepid ( I know have a '03) and after about 50-60 miles of driving the car would shut off. Then it would start right back up and not do it again until the next long trip....not even if I drove an additional 50-60 miles. The error codes showed multiple mis-fires in all cylinders. I took it to the Dealer three time after it did it, but they could find nothing wrong. They knew something was up because of the error codes, but could not figure out what to fix because it never happened to them. Then I made them drive it till it did it for them too, and it did stall out. Then it started back up. By the time they got back to the service center the car was fine again. Okay... shorten the story.... it ended up being a bad fuel pump. Of course this is a $500-600 fix at the Dealer. Car ran fine after they replaced the pump. Of course the pump is in the tank, and you have to drop the tank to get to it.... AFTER removing the back seat to unhook the connections. Might be something to look into. Also try searching at: www.dodgeintrepid.net/forums There might be some other ideas there.
